Also be aware, points cap at 2,500 per statement for QFF.

Absolutely agree. It rankles with me when loyal customers are excluded from being rewarded. Foxtel are dreadful like that.

I applied for the card using the link and was accepted. Will wait for the paperwork as I didn't see the points offer anywhere.

Plus one here......

This looks tempting, especially the black card. Now I almost regret going for the other deal (40k points) from few weeks ago. Anyone who got the platinum card in the other deal was successful applying for the black card from this deal (and getting points on both)?

Re: Westpac Altitude 50,000 QFF points ($150 annual fee - waived for existing custome

Thanks for that.

I tried to open an account online and got the following:

"We had difficulties creating your account. We'll continue to process your application and get in contact with you within 24 hours."

Guess I'll wait to see what happens.

Hey Dr Ralph,

Had exactly the same message, didn't even get to the verification stage. Seems like they may have system issues. post if there is a resolution for you and i'll do the same.

Got a message 24 hrs later which told me to go to a branch to finalise the account creation. Useless. I wont be doing this.

Mrs 2tall4Y has kept a Westpac savings account for those rare occasions where we need bank branches (like free access to coin counting), so I decided to apply for the Altitude Black in her name as 50,000 points for no fee is too good to pass up - got conditional approval straight away, just had to email her two latest payslips.

Chasing these sign-on bonuses is pretty addictive :)

Hi Ralph,

I'm curious - I recall you have had a number of ANZ cards in the past. My experience with them is I had to attend a branch to identify myself and activate the cards - did you have to undertake this process? If so, what is the difference here?

From where I'm standing, it appears that we are looking at a gift of 50k points in exchange for a walk down the the high street - that's pretty compelling.

that sucks, mine was just accepted. I just need to decide whether to go to the altitude or altitude black card, i could use the lounge passes and higher earn rate for my $2.5k min spend.

I was also successful in signing up without the need to visit a branch - applied online yesterday and received the same/a similar email to Dr Ralph, then today I was sent my account details. I had to call up to get my CN and a temporary password to access the account online for the first time - but that only took a few minutes.

I am thinking I will just go with the basic Altitude card and skip the platinum and black - My spend will be mostly on visa (I may miss 0.125/$ or 312.5 points on $2.5K, but I also wont tie up $15k of credit) and I have no plan to spend with QF to trigger the lounge passes.

Is there a reason to go with either of the other 2 offerings that I am missing?

The platinum has a higher QFF points cap (7,500/statement cycle), while the black is uncapped. Both platinum and black also come with 'complimentary insurance covers' while the basic Altitude card does not. As always, best to read the terms and conditions carefully, and make up your own mind.

For what it's worth, Mrs 2tall4Y got approved for the black card with a lower limit than the stated $15,000 minimum, so it might be worth experimenting with the application form to see if it lets you nominate a limit less than $15,000.

Both valid points and good features for someone planning to keep the card, I am only planning on meeting the spend requirement on utilities or similar then cancelling after the bonus points post - so I had not attributed much importance to them

I did have to attend an ANZ branch to collect the cards on the first occasion. Not to provide ID.

The difference is that there are far more steps here. I have to attend the branch just to open the savings account (that I don't want) to then apply for the card. And my application may not even be successful.

Going to a branch during normal opening hours is very inconvenient for me. Courts take a dim view of counsel asking for a brief adjournment to open a bank account!

ANZ offer was worth the inconvenience.

Add the fact that they've already lied to me about not needing to attend a branch means Westpac is looking too difficult.

Can someone advise if payment to ATO counts as eligible spends?

The fine print says: Eligible purchases do not include fees, cash, cash equivalent transactions, refunds and balance transfers debited from the card account.

Re: Westpac Altitude 50,000 QFF points ($150 annual fee - waived for existing custome

Got the answer from Westpac.

ATO payments will be treated similar to cash equivalent transactions in that cash equivalent transactions are not typically eligible for points earn. While customers will no longer earn points on payments made to the ATO using their base credit card (VISA and MasterCard) , points can still be earned at reduced rates on payments to the ATO using the American Express companion card.

,

In relation to the eligible spend to earn the bonus points, eligible purchases do not include fees, cash, cash equivalent transactions, refunds and balance transfers debited from the card account.

and

So payments to ATO doesn't count towards the $2500 spending required to trigger the 50k points.

I'm still contemplating this one. I have the Earth card but as its not the Altitude it shouldn't affect it.

Re: Westpac Altitude 50,000 QFF points ($150 annual fee - waived for existing custome

A Westpac live chat person just advise that payments to the ATO count towards the $2500 eligible spend to qualify for the 50k sign-on bonus.

So confused.

Re: Westpac Altitude 50,000 QFF points ($150 annual fee - waived for existing custome

Quick question about the 12-month restriction for previous members: my husband took advantage of the previous 40k offer, and mistakenly added me as an authorized user. So now I have these cards I don't need nor want. Does that make me a current customer, even though I'm not the primary member? And if we can manage to close his account before the new offer expires (he has already completed the spend), would I be disqualified from the new bonus by the fact that I was added to his account for a few weeks?

Re: Westpac Altitude 50,000 QFF points ($150 annual fee - waived for existing custome

Westpac have just told me that Im not eligible for the bonus points as I have the Earth card, even though its not the same card. Both products used to be offered side by side :-|
