Yes - I wonder if westpac members didn't have to?

Not sure if that's a typo - but no if your an existing customer you can apply online through your online banking portal and it prefills most of your info. Interestingly my requested limit was initially denied and they gave me a $1000 - this was during the application process. But then the new account appeared in my online banking with my requested limit.. go figure!

Lol I just applied for the hell of it, no way did I think I would ever get it and they approved it for a $1000 limit. I earn a pretty decent sum a month, but I have 35k worth of credit card limits, and got around 20k owing, plus mortgage, plus 2 rather large personal loans but I do get rental income from my house, how the how they warrant approving things is beyond me....the more debt you seem to have the more they want to give you!!!!!

As a Westpac Customer I do still need to provide proof of income said so at the end of the application when it was approved. With my income will be interesting to see if they decide to give me Plat or not, hope so, 33,000 points would be much better!!

Once this goes through that will be 60k frequent flyer points for the year on top of the 60k odd points from the Amex bonus a couple of years ago.........gee I love these bonuses, keep me up the front instead of slumming it up the back :)

Though this one will be min spend and then cut up. Can I cancel the minute I receive the points or do I have to wait for a period after??

Cheers,

Ok... I was surprised to get approved for this card since I'm self employed and already have a fair chunk of available credit on a few other cards. But what surprises me more is the strange credit limit this mob gave me...! Usually I expect to see a nice round figure rounded to the nearest $1,000, $500 or perhaps even $250... But the limit I ended up with is quite strange...!

I'll keep my anonymity by not revealing the exact credit limit they gave me, but its something along the lines of $2422

Anybody seen a crazy limit like this before...?

Sorry that was just my weird choice of phrasing before, elemist!

That is very odd! did you use the maximum credit limit option?
I suppose they want to make sure you spend every last dollar possible heh.

I might keep this card on the back burner for a bit. I need some sort of visa/mastercard for when they don't take amex or the surcharge is too much. Right now I am getting 1point/$ on anz visa purchases up to $1000 though so until ANZ change that I probably will just stick with them.

Yes, applied for maximum, Yes I think you are correct, they have gone all out to give me the most credit available to the nearest dollar...!

Possibly the strangest thing I have seen in regard to a credit card limit...

Next thing you know they'll be giving credit to the cent... :D

i can't remember which, but some card applications state that when you request credit limit, it needs to be in multiples of $100.

going to the nearest whole dollar seems very weird indeed.

For those of you that applied and were not westpac customers were you required to fax/post in pay slips?

Picked up my card this week from my local branch, they just wanted to see passport, proof of address and Medicare card. They didn't care about income  maybe because I only went for a 1000 limit

I told them over the phone to forget about the application as they wanted me to jump through the usual hoops, income proof etc.

I whinged how it was only $2500 im applying for. CSR said doesnt matter how much im applying for as since im not a westpac customer and its automated that they want
proof of income.

Tempted to see what happens if i apply for one thousand but dont want another credit check against my name.

I applied for a 1500 limit and they still asked for Proof of income.

Haven't yet gone down there yet though (lazy). I imagine it would depend on who you get to serve you.

I have two questions:
1) What are the criteria they use to approve you?
2) Does it depend on your luck whether they ask for proof of income?

In my application, this was possibly the easiest approval I have been given, Being self employed the approval for this card was incredibly easy, and it looks like they gave me my highest possible limit to the nearest $1 as mentioned earlier... :p

Its a nice change from the hoop jumping from Amex direct & citi

My opinion on this is that proof of income will always be requested, UNLESS you work for a large company or a company that has a very close relationship with the bank you are seeking to have credit with...

I had to send in 3x payslips, DL, and bank statement to show pay credited into.

Approval process was fast though, sent in documents Friday 8pm, approved by 9am this morning.

.

I applied for the BMW Amex a while ago. They never asked for any proof of income and gave me a 7.5k limit when I only asked for 2k. Needless to say I was surprised.

I think a bit of it comes down to luck really in terms of who handles your final application.

What surprised me the most though was I had never had any dealings with Amex directly until this application.

Anyone been credited the 16k points yet...?

Whats the minimum eligible purchase amount to get the points, not clearly stated on the website, from the looks of it, any purchase is an eligible purchase...? Even a trivial small transaction may be enough...?

Anybody know...?

1. The bonus 16,000 Qantas Frequent Flyer points offer applies only once per new Earth account. You must make an eligible purchase on either of your new Earth cards by 20 January 2012 to receive the bonus 16,000 Qantas Frequent Flyer points. Bonus points will be credited to your account 3 months from your first spend. This offer is not available in conjunction with any other offers.

So any spend, but won't get the points for 3 months. Wonder if they made it delayed on purpose to deter people like us :)

Thought I read on the T&C existing Westpac Rocket Loan customers (which I am) are ineligible for this promo. I am keen for the points so just wondering if anyone out in the position has successfully applied?

I think it's a good time to cancel my ANZ cards that I got 20k points on earlier this year and switch to these (until the next deal comes out).

I know the deadline is 30 Nov, but I'm currently overseas until 7 Dec. Most of you said that you had to pick up the new cards at a local branch - they won't post them out? If not, I wonder if they'll hold the cards until I return?

I also just noticed there is a Qantas Amex Discovery card - 10,000 points with no annual fee (well, only 7.5k points if no purchase of a QF flight). Has anyone applied for this?

Mine were posted out - no problem.

I got the letter the other day to come in and pickup. Also bring proof of income. Really going to struggle to get out of the office in time!

Cruiser, are you a current Westpac customer? If so, that would probably explain it.
