Just discovered that from today flights booked On Qantas Canadian airline partner, Westjet (WS) starting with a "WS" flight number, these flights now earn Qantas points.
( Sadly , no status credits are earned on WS , similar to bookings made with an "EK " flight number on partner Emirates)

Before today only flights booked as a codeshare with a "QF" flight number would earn QFF points.

Also worth noting is that award seats on WS become available to redeem on the Qantas website also, which comes in very handy for domestic Canadian flights and flights between Hawaii and Canada.

Westjet have also launched flights between the east-coast Canadian Airports and Glasgow, Gatwick and Dublin.

Very Exciting news indeed!

Here is a news article from Yahoo Canada:
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/westjet-qantas-unveil-reciprocal-frequent-220000723.html

CALGARY , May 24, 2016 /CNW/ - Today WestJet and Qantas Airways (Qantas) announced a reciprocal frequent flyer agreement where members of the airlines' frequent flyer programs can earn their choice of WestJet dollars or Qantas Points when travelling on flights of either airline. This agreement expands on the existing code-share relationship between Qantas and WestJet announced in 2014.
"We are thrilled to team up with Qantas to bring significant benefit to guests of both airlines," said Bob coughmings , WestJet Executive Vice-President, Commercial. "We are confident that our members are going to love earning WestJet dollars while flying on the Qantas global network, and we are equally excited to welcome Qantas frequent flyers aboard and offer them a new opportunity to earn Qantas Points everywhere WestJet flies.
"This will be a significant improvement to our reward program value proposition," coughmings continued. "Our research showed that global travel is a significant aspirational attribute that our program needs. We have come a long way with our rewards program and airline partnerships since launching in 2010, and will continue to add value to our guests through these vehicles going forward. Adding these capabilities to our rewards program and working with our airline partners are all part of our long-term strategic plan."
Effective May 24, 2016 Qantas Frequent Flyers can also redeem Qantas Points on Qantas code-share flights operated by WestJet, giving Qantas Frequent Flyers access to numerous WestJet destinations throughout Canada and the USA when connecting to or from a Qantas international service. WestJet and Qantas are currently working on plans to introduce fully reciprocal redemption for both airlines in 2017, so WestJet members will be able redeem on Qantas flights and Qantas Frequent Flyers will be able to redeem on WestJet flights.
"Not surprisingly, travel is the number one interest of Qantas Frequent Flyers so we know our members will be excited about being able to earn and use their points when travelling with WestJet," said Lesley Grant , Qantas Loyalty CEO. "Qantas Frequent Flyer has more than 50 airline partners and affiliates, which gives our members access to over 1,200 destinations and this partnership with WestJet opens up even more new routes for them to fly while earning and using their Qantas Points ."
WestJet Rewards members earn WestJet dollars on flights and vacation packages with WestJet, WestJet Vacations, and select partner airlines, as well as on purchases made with the WestJet RBC MasterCard. WestJet dollars act like cash and can be redeemed anywhere WestJet flies, at any time. Full details of the program can be found at westjet.com/rewards.

Great news. Too bad it didn't come a few weeks ago for me - oh well a good excuse for another holiday!

The further strengthening of the QF/WS partnership is really good news. Canada used to be a major weakness for Qantas and OneWorld in general; with the earlier code shares and now this, that's one issue crossed off for me.

As Cool Cat Phil said, WestJet is a very good airline.

Good stuff. This fills a QFF gap in the Canadian market quite well.

Any idea if this will include reciprocal status benefits, e.g. lounge access when flying WestJet?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Have had a few very good experiences on WestJet (and Porter Airlines, as an aside). Good move for QF.

The deal must be off......There was fantastic availability when this was announced, but now I can't find any seats on any part if the Westjet network.

Westjet great airline!
Service and pre boarding free food and drink fantastic in Vancouver

Has anybody been able to find a Westjet award seat?

Im having the same difficulties, I'll be heading to Vancouver as part of the 280k award and wanted to do a side trip from there to Calgary or Edmonton and then onto Yellowknife for some northern lights, but can't seem to search any flights for Westjet on the Qantas website, I know that I'll have to pay for the return flight to Yellowknife as that is not part of the partnership but flights to YYC or YEG should be able to be booked using QFF points

Try using multicity search. Put oz to lax in first line and then the westjet route. This will show results but not sure if the WestJet sectors can be book on their own.

It's strange that inter-Canadian award availability appeared on the QF website in the first few days of the partnership with WS when it was announced, and now they don't.
Sounds like a bug on the QF website.
Maybe a call to the QFF service centre might be required.

Does anyone know what the process is for seat selection on a QF operated by WestJet metal (SFO-YVR), booked through Qantas?

I am WP, phoned Qantas, they could not access the seating and did not have a WestJet contact phone number. Qantas provided me with the WestJet booking ref. This got me online access to the booking but the site advised: 'your booking is not eligible for online services'. Otherwise, the site advice seems to be to wait until 24 hours and select seats at check-in.

Any other suggestions???

Technically that isn't QF operated, it is QF marketed. I'd suggest a phone call to Westjet.
