I just got "downgraded" to SG (from WP) in the last few hours. Anyone know what's going on?

What happened was that they tinkered with their web site last night (see post #644 above). I warned people on another thread to screenshot all their info.
 
I thought there was a minimum period for changes to be advised before they take affect.
Agree, and that would be major.

Plus retroactive changes to existing status? No, just can't see it.

Im just so curious about "Points+" and what that will look like (as most people are I imagine). Expected timing is April right?

From the Qantas T's and C's

3.2 Qantas Loyalty will use best efforts to advise Members of material changes to these Terms and Conditions and, where such changes will limit Benefits:

(a) where the Benefit is provided by Qantas, to give Members at least three months notice;
(b) where the Benefit is provided by a third party, where possible give Members at least 30 days notice.

I would assume (a) applies to any rework of status benefits - although, as it's when changes 'limit Benefits' I don't actually know if what QF considers an "enhancement" would count...

Just called Qantas this morning.

No hold, spoke to the agent, was told that it's an "IT issue", and that an email will be written to the IT team and it should be fixed within 24 - 48 hours.

Seems like it could be related to the website updates they're doing, though it may well be purely coincidental. We'll see I suppose!
 
Firstly had a theory if it was announced before the Friday just gone it was good news as they would want the publicity. I fear now they want to bury the bad news in the Easter and school holidays period as people will have other things on their mind.
But that is not the purpose of my post.
Do you think QF will, as a once off, dump some extra CR seats into the system when they announce the changes so they can say look how many seats there are?

Yes, I think there's a good chance that'll happen. They don't want customers facing nothing but 1 million point tickets to long-haul destinations — that will turn into a PR disaster for them.

In fact, I’d hazard a guess that they’ve been holding off releasing seats for months now pending a massive dump around launching the new Classic+ seats.

April 31st! Or maybe even April 1st if it's all 'good news'? ;)

I suspect it will be announced at the same time as other QF news (particularly investor news as they're holding off on a share buyback until this is announced), so expect to see it all announced before markets open on the day they're ready.

Well, if I'm going to have a high point redemption target, I need to round-up in how I communicate things (i.e., these are the flights I get, at the times I like, etc etc).

So maybe I'm ambitious, but I'm also generous about how I value these things.

I guess I could say I aim for 2c / point redemption (and choose to fly Jetstar). But that's not my frame of reference :)

That's why AA went to a pure spend-for-loyalty program, and I think it's genius from a business point of view. It encourages irrationality in your spending practices, and the company doesn't care as long as you're spending the cash with their co-branded card.
100% agree.

If I sell miles for 1.2c/mile ... and my cost to use these miles is 1c (or less) ... then the 20% margin is much better than EBITDA on average revenue tickets. The profit-maximising function is to then maximise the number of miles I can sell (at 1.2c). And of course if miles are forfeited, then margin is 100%.

The system breaks if I can get my 4-10c / mile redemptions in J/F (using my dodgy math ;-)). So let's not make 'costs' variable, let's fix them - 1c/mile.

The system breaks if people value miles less, and are unwilling to show loyalty for them... but then I can get 4,830,202 miles for a $99 annual fee.

Let’s face it
Cost to services sold v price charged bare no relationship

So there’s the open public website prices - Flex Y And the 7 red-e deal price points
There’s the business rewards portal with discounts
There’s the travel agency connect
There’s the occasional glitch on the GV portal with lower prices
There’s the Fed govt portal with prices considerably lower

It’s very much a “how much can we extract from those willing to pay ?”


If we were to cost plus margin
J fares to Europe would be around $6,000
F around $10-11,000
