As a treat to myself, I booked into the Formule 1 for a relaxing time. When I arrived at the hotel, there was an envelope addressed to me.

The contents basically read:
- We are overbooked due to a football event.
- We apologise.
- We have arranged alternative accommodation for you at our partner hotel, the Sofitel down the road.

The Sofitel was approximately 1 mile away. Checked into the Sofitel, and was welcomed as a valued guest of Accor. Stay there was adequate. I did see that the minibar prices of drinks was much higher than the Formule 1 vending machines.

How much compensation should I ask for? Should I request my original rate back, or should I ask them for additional money (they don't award A-Club points) to cover the inconvenience? Should I also ask for the difference in minibar costs?

Is it April 1st already ? :p

If they made you walk, don't forget to include wear and tear on your shoes as part of your compensation claim.

And here I was thinking Mal was looking for some sympathy and people are paying him out....

Hmmm…love your work, Mal

I think by Sofitel Mal means the soft inflatable bed (that Mal had to blow up himself) and the envelope contained the tent that he was thrown out the door with.

As expected - this incident didn't actually happen, and was my attempt at some April Fools Day humour.

Great to see some people have got a laugh out of the story :)
