Thanks mviy, hubby is gold, and got his upgrade on way over 48 hrs out. I'm silver and first time on sep bookings hence I'm lower down the chain. I'll be making sure I decide I'm going when I book his not too weeks later in future lol.
Although the downside might be that 2 upgrades are not available so that you both miss out.

Indeed. It's frustrating waiting and not knowing, but then it's a lot cheaper to go in the upgrade lottery than to buy business seats outright.

As long as one is happy not to win in the upgrade lottery. Basically pay for the class you are happy to fly in.
If money was no object I'd fly J or F on a paid fare or classic award seat every time.

I rely on upgrade requests for a chance of flying J for some of my long haul travel and pay for J sometimes. Yes Y is uncomfortable, but if it's a choice of that or not going on a trip...

Totally agree I'd fly j every time. But I'm happy with PE fir long haul, hence buy that every time and hope fir upgrade. It's not normally a problem cos we normally on same booking. Just this one AND ONLY time not lol. I'm happy to enjoy the gold privileges of hubby incl upgrades which we have had number of times.

I didn't mean to imply you in this, just a general comment as upgrades seem to be harder to get these days on some routes, people shouldn't count on them.

We were in Lusaka. We now back in Capetown until home 15 aug
I spent a few weeks in Ndola and surrounds ~4 years ago visiting programs / missions / organisations I support.
We are so blessed to live where we do, I overnighted in Lusaka on my way to Livingston, I didn't like it much

We were 6 days Lusaka ministering in church conference, run marriage seminar and husband preaching every night. So wasn't holiday. My first time there, loved the people, but wasn't fav place, dry dusty etc.

Very happy all scored upgrades on way home. Sitting in Lounge Joburg waiting for boarding.
