VISA Waiver Program to USA

Re: Us vwp

There are many different routes that a CBP officer may take... If your last trip was your first ever visit (or first after not visiting for a while) then my guess is that the most likely starting position, will be to ask "why are you returning so soon?" & "why don't you know exactly how long you are planning to stay?"

I have never had this. Even if this were to occur to the OP honest answers regarding their plans as a tourist would suffice.

Re: Us vwp

thanks for the replys

you have really eased my fears greatly. on another forum they seemed to think i'd have issues being admitted to the country after not being gone for long but what happened was my gran was sick so i was only able to stay for a short time and now because im starting Uni in a few months and wont get the chance to go on a big trip for some time she says that I should go and enjoy myself. and yes the first trip to the US was the first time i'd ever been there.

Re: Us vwp

I went to the US twice this year already, once in January for 5 days and 2nd time in June for 7days.

As previously mentioned, you don't have to apply for the waiver through ESTA again, just update your new travel details there. I had no problem at all.

^ Well, if you are asked (and I highly doubt you will be!) just tell them what you told us.

You will need to update your ESTA though with your new flight number, city where you will stay etc.

Have a great trip :)

Multiple entries to USA on VWP

Hi,

I am looking to return to the USA on a VWP for the 3rd time this year and am concerned with getting approved at POE. My first visit was in March when i spent 2 weeks in Canada and 4 in the USA. I then spent about 3 weeks back in Aus before returning to the USA for 67 days. When i next return i will have spent 57 days out of the USA. Will there be serious issues going back considering these past trips?

Thanks for all help

As a side note - I was concerned about this same thing the second time i went back, but breezed through POE without issue, however i do realise that this is now an entirely different situation again.

You shouldn't have too much trouble, but should fully expect to answer questions such as:

- why all these trips to the US?
- what do u do for work that allows you all this time off?

They just want to make sure that you will leave in the allotted time, and that you won't try and work.

The main issues with re-entry come up when you go from the States to Canada and back again.

Re: Multiple entries to USA on VWP

Exactly as dfcatch has said.We have in one year 6 entries to the US.The questions were asked but by being brought up in conversation rather than a grilling.no problems at all.

Re: Multiple entries to USA on VWP

Similar situation here - my work takes me to the US on a fairly regular basis, mostly for short (2-3 day) stays. I've never had a problem with entry under the VWP - on the more recent stays I've been asked if I have sufficient money to support myself during the trip but no further scrutiny than that.

Re: Multiple entries to USA on VWP

It's far from an interrogation. They'll ask what you are planning, where you are going to first (not having set accomodation onthe first night must be some sort of trigger for further questions).

I think i've been asked every time what my trip plan is, usually ended with "all done, have a good stay".

Re: Multiple entries to USA on VWP

As others have said, you shouldn't have any problems. I've entered the US more than 6 x this year and I haven't encountered any of the questions. My boyfriend who traveled with me a couple of times though was asked what he does for work and the purpose of the visit.

Re: Multiple entries to USA on VWP

A few years ago I was visiting the USA for work 2 weeks each month for about 9 months. So lots of regular VWP entries. I was never questioned about the regularity of visits. Just received the usual "random" questions about "What are doing in the USA?", "What line of work are you in?", "Who do you work for?" etc. Always easy to answer honestly and never a problem.

Re: Multiple entries to USA on VWP

Sorry just as an after thought, if someone is refused entry on a VWP and are sent back home, are they then banned from the VWP? And if that is the case, are VWP users able to withdraw there application for entry to avoid a ban?

Thanks again to everyone for your feedback

Any ban for re-entry would likely depend upon the reason for entry refusal.

I would expect the usual requirement for anyone refused entry under VWP would be to apply for a visa and they would then need to meet all the requirements for visa eligibility.

HardLine,

Are you thinking of a specific situation in asking this question?

Re: Multiple entries to USA on VWP

No specific situation as such. My situation is merely that i want to go back over there for christmas with my g/f (USC) and her family. And do plenty of holiday activities. I am doing it so close together because at the start of next year i start a course for my line of work which runs for 12 months and won't get a chance to head to the US then. Considering that and that the AU dollar is so strong it just seems like now is the time to do it. I am looking to stay for approx 80 days, arriving back home in time to begin my course.

It all sounds OK IMHO. :D

For all my arrivals this year I have only gotten as far as the first set of finger scans then told to stop.No thumbs, pics at all. No complaints, speeds up the process but wondering how long the scans and photo from last year's entry's are valid for?, is there is a exact time frame?

same for me today, just right hand 4 finger scan and 2 questions: where are you going, how long are you staying. I was wondering whether having onward travel on a separate ticket would result in somebody at checkin or immigration asking for proof of onward travel, but nobody did.
