It’s been like that for an eternity. We used to get the green I-94 chit stapled to your BP that mostly was taken at boarding.
I was once on a work trip and a colleague had an old green chit in his PP on reentering the US. The immigration guy gave him the 3rd degree on why he’d overstayed but fortunately he was able to show a stamp into Fiji. Why he hadn’t tossed the green chit beggers belief…![]()
You still get them on the land borders. I had the same problem entering from Mexico by land and exiting by air. I ended up just self removing it from my passport.
