I tried them once, way back when they first began, found the wines to be vile and never got anything else from them.

My experience was many years ago though so I'd put more weight in recent reports.

I got the offer back when it was only giving 2000 velocity points. The pack I got was ok. Colleagues loves them though so it was great for plonking contributions / cheap gifts

I was gifted a few bottles of red from from one of their cases earlier in the year. 'The Black Pig' shiraz was ok, but the rest was pretty ordinary (although other than the shiraz, none of what I received is in the current case).

I did a subscription a few years ago on the back off an offer. First case had some OK wines in it, after that it was poor quality and quickly pulled up on the subscription.

Well, I decided to give it a go... 12 bottles plus 3 free ones for $100 including shipping PLUS 3000 bonus Velocity points is hard to say no to. Its $6.50 a bottle and if I dont like them, they make excellent gifts :D

I've never tried Virgin Wines, but a friend did once. Tried one bottle, wasn't too impressed.

At that price point I suspect they will be like Cellarmasters's various labels - great to cook with, or for gifts / hampers / etc.

As always - happy to be surprised. I look forward to your review.

I've bought a few things from the parent company, Laithwaites Wine People, the local arm of (I think) the biggest UK direct wines sales "club", sort of like Cellarmasters. Some of their Spanish reds are very good drinking at the price, I've had a few mixed dozens of those and few duds amongst them.

Some of their own label Australian stuff is actually quite good too, some from makers associated with the original Redheads Studio in McLaren Vale that started out to mostly make wine for Laithwaites UK and then branched out locally. Justin Lane (Alpha Box and Dice) was one of the originals at Redheads.

I personally wouldn't remotely consider signing up for a regular deliver plan with any of these sort of wine "clubs", but when they have special deals going, the buying can be good.

All your friends that you offloaded the wine to? ;)

I've already made a note not to accept gifts or hampers from Penegal...

LOL, well... better give one to my boss then  :D

I will probably just get this first one, then cancel the subscription. At normal price I might as well go buy the bottles I want but the introductory price was really good.

Do you think they will accept a return if there is only a sip left in each bottle? I had to make sure I really didnt like it :D

These are definitely low end wines that would normally be difficult to sell. I'd value each of them under $5 a bottle.

Much better value with the regular clear outs at places like BWS.

I had a 12+3 last year as a gift from my lovely wife. None of the wines were bad. None of them got out of the Wozza 3's - most would be 2s on my more refined scale a year on. If you're after cheap and okay, and something a bit different to the Aussie mainstream, especially Old World wines, then these will fit that bill. If, like Dr Ralph, you're after something more, then I'd stick with the usual suspects that pop up in the AFF Wine Lover threads.

hahaha, I would only give you proper presents. I don't give bad wine to people I like AC.

... And I actually try not to buy bad wine.

But we all make mistakes, which is what gifting to school fetes, and lucky dip hampers is for.

I've received this offer from Virgin Wines. $180 for a dozen bottles of wine, and it comes with 4,537 Velocity points and free delivery. Seems like a decent offer?

Virgin Wines - Special Offer

It's okay value, but a lot of those wines aren't anything special. If the velocity points are worth $45 to you, then paying $135 for those wines isn't too bad.

Well my mixed dozen box of wine arrived, and contains... 11 bottles.

I've sent them an email, will see how they respond.
