Hi,Just wondering if anyone has ever tried or been successful in upgrading their long haul international flight from economy to business at the airport? Thanks in advance

I tried a couple of years ago, was told VA don't do the "on departure upgrade" thing and that if I wanted to upgrade I would have to pay fare difference (to what the rate was on the day of flight, i.e. lots and lots).

That might have changed, but I haven't read anything on here to indicate it has... (sorry)

I would say no at the airport but you could all a few hours prior and ask them to do it per the below

[h=4]International Long Haul Flights[/h]Gold and Platinum Velocity members booked on a Flexi, Premium Saver or Premium fare can use Points to request an upgrade to Premium Economy or Business Class on international long haul flights to Los Angeles and Abu Dhabi operated by Virgin Australia with a VA flight number.
Upgrade from a Flexi, Premium Saver or Premium Fare

  • You must request an upgrade by contacting the Membership Contact Centre at least three hours prior to the scheduled flight departure time.
  • Upgrades are not available from Saver Lite or Saver fares.
