Virgin Lounge Food

Ok, diverting the specific intention of this thread for a moment. _Why_ are international lounges, generally speaking, so much better than domestic ones? Whats the business case that causes an airline, any airline, to put more love and money into their international offering, lounge wise? Why are we quite happy to accept this apparent status quo?

Easy one to answer, more competition can be addressed with the one facility, put a good lounge in your home ports and people start to lose their rational thinking ability when it comes to value.

I would have thought that it's to cater for folk paying serious coin for long haul J / F..

That is so not true for lounges in the US. Our domestic lounges are infinitely better than the international lounges of UA, DL and AA.

The weekends are typically not as well catered for as the weekdays. QF is similar in this regard (bar possibly the J Lounge).

QF J lounge is just as good on weekends as weekdays

Even for the last flight they are still fully stocked and will bring out more food/wine/cheese just for a few passengers

If lounges are for frequent flyers, why is the food always the same?

Because Virgin are rubbish

Thread necromancy!

Just want to call out the food in SYD on Friday evening: they had mini ciabatta rolls, steaming hot sliced roast beef in gravy, and mustard, to let you make up your own hot beef rolls.

GOOD LORD it was delicious. Maybe I was just excited because it wasn't those bloody hot dogs again, but, seriously... the meat was moist and juicy, the rolls were yum, it was great. And obviously everyone agreed; first time I've seen an actual serious queue for the food in VA SYD (about 10-12 people lined up the whole time).

If anyone from VA is reading this: MORE LIKE THAT PLEASE. (And, you know, NOT SO MUCH WITH THE HOT DOGS.)

I haven't seen hot dogs in a VA lounge for at least 6 months.

The roast beef sounds good. Hopefully next week.

Not a big Friday afternoon flyer then, I take it...

(To be fair, the frequency of hot dogs is reduced, but they're still in SYD on Fri afternoon... I dunno, maybe 40% of the time?)

I'd be happy to still see the Hot Dogs, as long as the food is mixed up throughout times of the day and days of the week, just a bigger range of food on rotation would be wonderful.....but the roast beef sounds great!!!

No, well my Friday afternoon flying is with Qantas as their schedule is better for my usual needs in the afternoon.

I almost spewed last Thursday night when I saw the rolls on the servery. Then I got close enough to read the sign that said roast beef and gravy. :D

I was in the SYD lounge on Friday evening too and I was also quite impressed with the offering. The beef was indeed juicy and tender. The soup was also very nice as was the salad offerings. Well done, Virgin!

Bugga.
So :(:shock:(sad face, jealously grin, shock horror) that's when they roll out the good stuff, Fri nights in the VA lounge.
No wonder I get the "all day breakfast" type of "condiments" when I travel weekends!
I must try to try out this thingo on a Fri, maybe a Good Fri one easter.
Work Mon to Fri evenings, and hard to get time off "for good behavior".

Ditto the roast beef rolls! We'll done Virgin. Pleasantly surprised. No more having to eat soggy sangas. Just downed one and sitting back and watching the tv. And it's Tuesday night.

Same offering last night too - and very tasty!

You know, every time I see this thread "Virgin Lounge Food", I just add in my own mind the word SUCKS.

Are these tasty additions only in SYD? I usually fly non-peak and non capitals, so does that mean my cheap (cough, hack, choke) $500+ rtn fare BNE-MKY tomorrow is not worth a semi-decent nosh? I wonder why people like me are beginning to loathe VA? Not so very long ago, I could get a $150 rtn fare, where I didn't really care if the food was cough!

I'll report back as to my success (or otherwise) at getting something other than a ham and (non Swiss) cheese toastie at both BNE and MKY.

Just in BNE lounge now, first time for breakfast in a while, so may be old news. But I was amazed to see scrambled eggs AND bacon! Add to that raspberry and white chic muffins, yogurt/granola glasses plus all the usual fare for cereal, toast, toasties and pancakes. best lounge selection I have seen in a while in any lounge!
