Virgin Lounge Food

In the MEL lounge this afternoon (Wednesday) they had Bahn Mi (Vietnamese Pork Rolls) being freshly made to order with all the toppings by a chef ...
Yet nothing to be seen Friday lunchtime...

Can't expect much for QP at $485 per year or VA lounge at $300 per year, each after having "discounts" taken into account though eh?
I had a dream some airline used to have lobsters for food in F class a million years ago!

Still several airlines that serve lobster in F ;)

Flying VA J - Star Alliance Lounge LAX on 26th July - Food was very good, with a reasonable assortment also, the Beef Pho was excellent...

I find the interest in lounge and ob-board food kind of fascinating in an irrelevant sort of way.

I don't fly QF or VA or whoever for a feed, I fly them to go somewhere. That's their function. They are not a catering service. Virgin's job is to go up, stay up, and come down in a timely and appropriate manner.

If the planes are clean and on time and I can snatch a row 3 aisle seat, I'm happy. Everything else is just a frippery.

I appreciate the lounges as a better alternative to sitting at gate 9, and at 5.30pm I'm known to enjoy a couple of Peronis in a lounge, but I don't sit in the taxi on the way to the airport thinking about what's to eat in the lounge. There's always food when you get home or a club sandwich at the hotel.

Oh yes so on the road or in meetings or traveling for the day, lunch is your last meal.

Arrive at the airport at 5pm for a 6:30pm flight, by the time you actually get home it's going to be 9-11pm which is too late for dinner and the last thing I want to do after a day of travel/work/meetings/whatever

Nice - A copy of what QF have been doing :p

So scrambled eggs and bacon are in the MEL/SYD lounges for breakfast ?

Does it matter if anyone copies anything as long as the standard is raised. Don't fly qantas so don't really care what they do.

And yes there is scrambled eggs and bacon at breakfast.

Indeed. Travel and timings can throw things right out of whack. Its part of the reason why I object to the various airlines determining that flights beginning at such and such a time are 'snack' service ... the price is the same, so they are giving me a snack to save me from overeating? No-one but me knows what internal clock I'm running, perhaps mid late afternoon is my first chance to eat since breakfast ... maybe since last night even. I can't tell you the number of times I've hit the scenario of your first sentence either. PER-MEL, bad in flight meal and late check in to hotel can often mean I've not eaten since lunch or breakfast and the hotel food is essentially closed by the time I get to the room (depending on the hotel).

View attachment 33104vietnamese rolls being made in Melbourne lounge at lunch today! Well done VA!

Where was that on Friday!

Yep, had that problem last month. Missed lunch and dinner by the time we connected from one flight to the next. On board snack was corn chips on both flights and that was it.

An hour ago, Velocity asked on facebook what people would like to see on the menu in the lounge - lots of people asking for sushi, more salads, more hot food... :)

Here's one of the famous rolls :)

That looks nice. Hopefully the bread wasn't hard. Lucky MEL. It wasn't in BNE yesterday (lunchtime) and I must admit, I just bypassed the lounge today so I can't comment. Hopefully VA are semi-serious about bettering their food offering.

(BTW........whatever did happen to the spirits? They advertised that on their promo video all those months ago, so I can only think the accountants pen got to that one!)

No need to get so worked up about your previous VA.....but thanks for the laugh

Oh and they have copied QF :)

Pretty easy I'd say. A nice selection of finger food. From recent form, I'd suggest they have breakfast pretty well sewn up (except I'd love to see the little glasses of Bircher back) but lunchtime, afternoon and evening still seems a tad mediocre. Please VA, don't remove the staple offering (or the toastie machine) but I agree that some nice sushi would be great, along with some nice finger food......especially heated finger food, but not greasy chicken wings that get everywhere. I think the secret of really clever finger food in an airport lounge are little niceties that are tasty, easy to eat, not too large as to require cutlery and as many of us are in clobber we don't really want stains on, NOT greasy or sloppy.
