Virgin Lounge Food

Surely with the new lounge there would have been a better selection of food? At least some token hot options like the eastern seaboard lounges have?

The people running the VA website are now running the lounges too ;)

Errr, em no. If that was happening, random sections of the lounges would be closed off every day, to random people.

I'm more surprised at PER because it is the newest lounge in the system, in a bespoke terminal which they trumped up so much.

VA offer a hot food option in the PER lounge on a similar basis to the east coast lounges (only at certain times of the day). I believe this level of service meets (or possibly exceeds) the level of service provided by the opposition in the equivalent lounge.

Well your report seems incongruent with the other one above, but I'm more inclined to agree with the offering, since it makes little sense for VA to do otherwise.

As for against QF, depends on whether you are comparing against QP or Business Lounge. However, I believe the QP does offer a hot option for most of the day (at least according to the last time I was there), and the Business Lounge has at least a couple of hot options on offer.

The post that started this 'debate' was a question more than a statement of fact (when does... ?) but the VA haters here will jump on any opportunity to get a cheap shot in.

In my experience, the limited times I have frequented the QP (not J) in the recent past, no hot food has been on offer. However, I am not saying that it is not offered at all in the QP and I am not posting a complaint (sarcastically or otherwise) about it either.

Capital city QPs have usually had hot food on the times I've been there but not always. Last time on a Monday afternoon was party pies, supplied in reasonable quantity though don't know if they were replenished/replaced after the first lot was eaten.

Of course nighttime hot food is almost invariably some form of stew with rice or pasta. Quite often not worth eating but you get something decent occasionally.

Tonights dish in Melbourne is a rather uninspired 'Spanish rice'; rather flavourless yellow rice with bits of chorizo and corn in it. With liberal additions of chilli and salt.

Packed lounge too, i was disappointed to have lined up for it.

Ps. If you were in the Lounge around 6pm, im sorry that I didn't update the "lounge meetups" thread after being delayed ... its always nice to see another AFFer when lounging.

Breakfast at SYD on 6/5. Cold meat and boiled egg. Muesli, yogurt. I was disappointed as I hoped there would be scrambled eggs!

Sounds like standard lounge fare to me. I've never seen hot food on offer for breakfast by VA.

Maybe they only bring it out on weekdays?

Is it just me but I'm tempted to BYO food to the lounge, or tempted to skip altogether and visit a proper cafe and have a feast there? Long queues and big crowds, no hot food outside meal times... only a certain amount of salads and pancakes one can eat. Drinks are the only decent items they have.

Tempted to hit T4 next time, take away some Brunetti's and back to the lounge for some drinks.

People really throw money on status runs for this??

Vego risotto in the BNE lounge at lunch time today, with parmesan and chilli additions. Not super exciting but hit the spot.

I was in the Sydney Lounge last week (maybe the week before...) after coming in from LAX on the way to PER. They had eggs and bacon - decent quality shortcut bacon too
