I don’t think you’re flying to AKL on Virgin somehow. They don’t fly there!
You are right, I am going to ZQN! Had a mind blank thinking NZ put AKL.....Will change my post....Still flying Virgin though on Virgin International.

Is there any other lounge that can be accessed. ie Amex lounge etc

p.s who ever changed my thread title from capitals...thanks :)

Depending on which day you leave the Plaza Premium lounge might be open. Some Amex/Dragon Pass card holders can get free/cheaper access otherwise it's AU$57 per person for 2 hours which I'd say isn't worth it, you can buy a lot of food and drinks for $57 in the main terminal. There are ways to get a free dragon pass account that allows access at 19 gbp per visit (~AU$33).

Mon, Sat they open at 7:30am (until ~12pm) and Tue, Fri, Sun they open at 6:30am (until ~12pm). If you're travelling on a Wed or Thu then there are no other options.

This should change next month when my lounge reopens (exact date, cost and opening hours unknown) although for VA pax the only way will be to pay in as they still don't have any international lounge agreements.

OK thanks for the info, My trip isn't until September so hopefully VA can get something in place before then.

You can buy access to the Plaza Premium Lounge, but I'd suggest just going to one of the bars instead.

Yes thanks, @ $57 p.p I'll wait airside with the other common peopleo_O lol. I don't go to the lounges to fill up on food and grog. I go for some peace and quiet and a "sort of" comfortable seat so i'll find a quiet corner somewhere

At BNE international that's actually quite easy to find. Down near gate 76 there are some seats in front a large screen that don't really get used throughout the day until the evening emirates A380 departure. On quieter days all the gates between 76 and 73 can be totally empty as well.

Yes I know that area well. I've been down there before

Darn it, I fly out of BNE international next month. It would have been nice to sit down and have somewhere quiet to work.

Although the options at BNE have never been great, even pre-pandemic. I remember before a flight to LAX, there was a tiny little lounge that felt like a pop-up in the middle of a thoroughfare. Some lady was quite upset about it, so she called VA customer service and for the next 30 minutes the rest of us had to listen to her screaming down the phone line about the state of the lounge :\

That must be My Lounge but at least she will no longer be upset at it...

Yep it still exists, when I passed through a few weeks ago it still looks like it's frozen in time back in 2020 (hasn't been touched since then). It's expected to reopen next month and I wouldn't be surprised if some of the long haul non alliance carriers into Brisbane that use swissport switch to it.

yeah, bloody Virgin. If it's not bad enough flying BNE-DPS on a cramped old plane, you can't even drown your sorrows at the international lounge first. Yes that lounge was a bit 'basic', but still far better than airport prices outside - as I discovered recently. $19 for an atrocious burger. Sigh... I think I'll be flying SIA this year to Asia instead.
