Virgin Happy Hour [Thursdays]

I don't bother with the ironically-named Happy Hour these days.

The prices are for getaway fares, which are nothing to be "happy" about, and rarely suit my travel plans. "Lucky lottery hour" might be a more suitable title. Better results can be achieved using discount codes.

It seems international flights on upgraded VA metal are doing well. They're not discounted very often anymore (no international offerings in yesterday's HH), and the sticker prices are quite high.

Somewhat. ... the most recent were a couple of weeks ago and the prices for Y and W were about the same as for the recent sale that finished Wednesday.

Saw SYD-CNS for $127 for May-June which is pretty good. Don't need to go though.

PER-BNE at $149 ow is not a bad price and availability is reasonable. Looking at picking up a few returns at that price.

Ended up going with four PER-BNE HH Getaways at $149 (with row 3 on the 73H) and four BNE-PER Freedoms with promo code (on the 332) to burn all of my newly earned WP comp J upgrades.

Happy J days, as long as I do not get a 73H sub...

Dying for SYD > LAX PE in June. I was just looking and saw them at $2700 return yesterday but there was no sale notification or Promo tag.

Had to sort some things out and when I checked again at about 1am this morning it was back $2200 each way :(

Hopefully its on sale tomorrow, its about time. Last month they had $2600 MEL > LAX PE return for may. So as long as the flight gods are nice to us its "due" any week now.

I am not organised enough to take advantage of todays cheap fares of PQQ-SYD for Jan/Feb 2018

Just checking on the Happy Hour sale prices today and I note that none of the routes we regularly fly are available. We normally fly SYD-ADL return and SYD-OOL return. I have often thought that these happy hour specials are rigged as they often don't show those routes.

Am I on drugs or do other people have these routes missing on their specials.

Bolt:)

Bolthead, one thing I briefly noted was that MEL - CBR at $129 one way was poor value against say SYD - BNE at $109 one way. The travel dates were a little different.

Shorter routes with lower frequencies have always been more expensive because generally the former have less 'competition' but that notwithstanding, on a per kilometre cost it's a huge difference.

VA does not offer every route every week.

Flights in and out of CBR are always relatively expensive compared with other routes. Likely has something to do with the fact that the CBR business is guaranteed (public servants will fly regardless) and there's not a heap of competition. As someone based in CBR this has long been a frustration.

Also, if you wait long enough, most routes do get cycled through the Happy Hour list.

I have only followed the Happy Hour recently but don't most CBR flights on there seem to be the same prices you would find at other times anyway? For example: I booked CBR <-> ADL for $319 a few weeks ago and the same price was advertised during Happy Hour this week.

Yes, little value to be found in VA HH for CBR residents.

There goes my conspiracy theory... SYD-ADL on the HH list tonight... (just when I thought I was onto something big... :))
