Thanks, did this just now for Syd>LAX return flights and the customer service rep (the lovely Ms Faye this time) was very excited for me as row 5 was still available for both sectors.
Now to phone hubby and tell him what Ive done with his points.
I you ask the agent about this before upgrading....
Also another question - are Business (Z) class fares date changeable, subject to availability? Is there a charge (points or $) for moving them? I'm getting ready to book but situation might arise that I need to leave a few days earlier. Assuming there was availability, do you reckon this is possible?
Hah, i have had this happen to me before as well when ringing up to add seats to my booking. Very excited she could put me into row 5.

Row 5 looks awesome if you're travelling with a partner - if you were flying solo would you still go for it?

Thanks for the replies guys.
Self-research would have been the way to go; from their website:

$60 to change it isn't too bad. The fee schedule reflects this also:

The interesting cell there is bottom right, but I expect making changes to reward seats probably isn't easy (or maybe not possible) via the website therefore the fee would be incurred either way.
Thanks again for your help. I'll go off in search of the other thread that talks about the best seat in the J cabin if traveling solo...
There is a change fee of $35 or 4500 points , however this is waved for a Platinum member as long as the changes are made 24 hrs prior to departure. Within this time non refundable
As for row 5 flying solo.. are you single? you might get a great companion

If you upgrade to business from Flexi Y or Y+, do you still accrue the points and SC based on Y or none at all?
Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?
Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.
Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.
I'm reluctant to pull the trigger on the fare, unless i can definitely upgrade to J using my points. Thanks!
