Re: A330 - XFA/B - Refit?

Sorry to dissapoint, XFJ will be delivered with the current J class seats.

Re: A330 - XFA/B - Refit?

Major one up move missed by VA then
The airlines can't win. If they don't improve their product, people cough. If they do improve their product, AFFers are out in force bemoaning inconsistent products. I guarantee that if it does come with a new product, within one month someone on here will be whining about being on an old cough plane, and how they are inconsistent etc etc.

Re: A330 - XFA/B - Refit?

Must say i am looking forward to the new j class virgin is to launch be great if it looks like the new j class qatar's has on the A380

Re: A330 - XFA/B - Refit?

Will the new J class be fully flat?
I'm really not a fan of angled lie-flat as they are not great for actually sleeping in

Re: A330 - XFA/B - Refit?

I think it's safe to say VA would not bother with the spend on an already newish product to replace angled flat with angled flat

Exactly right.

New J Class product

As I posted weeks ago I think this will be the seat VA have chosen, it's a logical choice but nothing definitive from VA, just from dodgy sources. It's a bit like iPhone 6 speculation.

Re: New J Class product

Smart move Virgin. How nice it is to be able to applaud a management decision from an Aus-based airline!

Re: New J Class product

WOW. This is going to be a total game changer if this is true. This is really a defining moment for VA as to where they want to go with their international operations. Do they want to be a strong domestic airline with international codeshares or do they want to be a proper international airline. Suddenly they will have the best J product across the Pacific (one of the worlds most profitable regions/routes), and the worlds best domestic Business Class (overtaking AA’s A321 transcon). That is one HELL of a marketing opportunity.

This is the exact reason QF’s 18 month early announcement of their new A330 J was (yet another) huge blunder. They gave their competitors plenty of warning as to their strategic intentions allowing their competitors have gone out and not only matched them, but beaten them. There was absolutely no advantage in announcing something that could not be booked for a year. If VA can be first to market they will beat them even further.

SYD-HKG would HAVE to be on the cards now – do VA have a similar cost base to CX? CX have shown how effective an A330 with Cirrus can be on Australian routes. Also PER-SIN and BNE-SIN would be a serious consideration – this is better than SQ’s ‘regional’ product on these routes. VA may struggle against competitors on major routes due to frequencies but for these ‘regional’ routes suddenly VA can leap-frog the competition.

This seems like total overkill for domestic services but the possibilities (and flexibility) it gives international is, IMO, the biggest news for VA since it became VA!

Without any new planes (none on order) VA can't add routes unless it ditches coast to coast services in the widebody. or its existing international routes.

For my mind its a nice new product and puts VA and QF roughly equivalent in terms of seats.
On coast to coast services this is a massive benefit for QF, given VAs current product puts QFs to shame.

Re: New J Class product

Im surprised by the budget they're committing to this - I was thinking they would go with less but wow. Now when will these be flying and how is row 5 affected?

With the slowdown in the resources boom I think VA are going to find its complete overkill on a 4 hour flight and realise there's more profit (and demand) to be found on international routes.

Surely they could lease some A330s/77Ws if they wanted to?

Maybe they'll cut SYD-AUH to become SYD-HKG...

Re: New J Class product

The CX J seat (and its siblings) is probably one of the best in the market at the moment. Happy that I have just booked my first ever VA flights in J for early next year.
