Re: New J Class product

SYD - HKG isn't on the cards anytime soon so don't get your hopes up for that route. Wide body fleet refurb for new J should be done by EOFY.

Re: New J Class product

With the slowdown in the resources boom I think VA are going to find its complete overkill on a 4 hour flight and realise there's more profit (and demand) to be found on international routes.

Surely they could lease some A330s/77Ws if they wanted to?

Maybe they'll cut SYD-AUH to become SYD-HKG...

Keep in mind that they will be launching the 330 onto a new INT route so its better to have the entire fleet identical.

Some of the need could also be to competitive on PER-LAX.

If they do that it's at the expense of coast to coast then

Do you know what the new route is? I can’t imagine them putting this onto a leisure route (HNL, HKT, DPS etc) so would it be SIN? NRT/HND? Somewhere else?

Re: New J Class product

I would love and pay with my own money a direct Japan route. Not holding my breath but I can wish, can't I?

Re: New J Class product

Cathay have not put a drink bottle holder in the seat which is annoying, The seat for the 777 is wider than A330 and has a better meal tray position but overall it's a great product should VA be getting them...and my hunch is they will. Question is where will they fly them? Overkill for PER and I just cannot see where they can be competetive internationally except LAX, perhaps Japan but that's a tough market too. They just don't have the aircraft numbers to do much really. It's a puzzler:confused:

Re: New J Class product

Apart from the wing on the shell, it looks more like Cathay has removed storage - from the bottle holder next to the armrest to what looks like bottle and shoe storage in the center

The CX 777 seat has bigger storage than the A330 seat which is more narrow. Shoe storage is in a little locker at the base of the outer wing. I don't like putting the bottle in that netting sling, its good for other bits and pieces and is a decent little storage area but they tell you not to put stuff there for take off and landing, why who knows yet it's okay to leave stuff unsecured on the tray above... the logic is purely inane! But overall it's a very good seat, BA use it for F on their 777's so no complaints if VA get it however they choose to customize it.

Re: New J Class product

just a guess would the new Qantas new j class or the new cirrus j class that Virgin my have what be the better one

Well CX did win best J class... and thats with the Cirrus seats. Not too sure about the QF seats.. they seem to take up more space?

Well those WP upgrades will come in handy then won't they

I hear its Cingapura but still no confirmation of what departure point.

I'd like that, but with VA's recent desertion of MEL I think SYD then BNE are the most likely candidates

Re: New J Class product

I am surprised that they didn't plump for the SQ Long Haul seat, given their current A330 is the SQ Regional seat. Runway Girl rates it 3 spots higher than the seat which QF is installing: their ascending ranking is - staggered aisle access (e.g. new QF), herringbone (e.g. VS), reverse herring bone (e.g. CX), sofa style (e.g. SQ) - The 19 different kinds of aircraft seating in 2014 - Runway GirlRunway Girl)

Re: New J Class product

That would have been pretty cool actually - the Singapore couch business class seats are excellent. Im guessing they will fit more seats on the 777's with the CX style seats though.

Re: New J Class product

......... I hear its Cingapura but still no confirmation of what departure point.

There will be a possible BNE opening for sure ....... the Etihad Airbus A330-200 service on the 'Brisbane -Singapore- Abu Dhabi' route is going to end on June 1, 2015 when it becomes a non stop BNE / AUH service on one of the new Etihad 787-9.

Given that, VA could do a Brisbane - Singapore service with their updated J product on board their A330's ...... More 738's on the Brisbane Perth run being the cost paid to make it happen ...........that new VA service would link up with some other SQ pairings when the Etihad Brisbane - Singapore legs goes on June1 ....
All the 330's could of been refurbished by June to offer the consistent product needed.

There must be plenty of VA insider who know for sure the new Int. route ............. It will surface sooner than later ....... Loose lips and all.
