I didn't pick up on this and paid the baggage cost.
It is part of the reason I don't much care about flying DJ in whY

I'd try and claim it back - it is their systems that can't handle it...

Would love to know what Amex say if you try to claim it from them

Has anyone not have to tell the check in agents with this free amex ticket that it comes with free baggage???

I'm thinking if I should just purchase baggage anyways just in case???

No just be firm with the check in dragons if you are challenged.

The information is there for them just apparently not super easy to find for some reason (that is how DJ girl explained it to me anyway).

The overwhelming trend here is that VA don't tell their staff what is going on . The other Amex lounge access thread bears this out

Should I bring a printout of the amex website to show them the T&C's??? I don't want to have a surprise when I turn up :)

A printout of your Amex email eticket document would be adequate as that details the luggage allowance.

(In any case you should have this already.)

If you want to go further to avoid any such issues upon check-in, a call to DJ asking why the booking shows no checked luggage allowance online would likely have them update DJ's PNR with the allowance. Thaen that would then show up upon check-in - i.e. Computer says "Yes".

It's hard to know how VA informs their staff of changes. They all knew about ATA going away pretty quickly!

thanks for the info :) I will give VA a call once I have it ticketed.

Hi All,

Just a question, was wondering if there is any difference worth mentioning?

I will be travelling with my wife and 22 month old infant (won't be getting a seat for infant).

I will use the AMEX free flight for either myself or wife and purchase the other adult fare from virgin australia. This will be SYD-ZQN return. What I want to know is, should I book the lap child infant on the paid ticket or on the amex free flight. Does it matter???

Cheers,
K.

I don't think it would matter which adult you attached the infant to however despite you not electing to buy a seat for the infant you will still need to purchase a ticket for the infant which is 10% of the fare because it's an international flight.

Infants under 2 are only exempt from paying an infant fare and taxes on domestic flights.

I would ask DJ if there is any difference to the cost of the infant ticket if he/she is attached to the paid ticket vs the companion ticket.

ok thanks. I will ring AMEX to see if there are any additional charges first.

Speaking of seats, does anyone know if it's still possible to do seat selection on these flights online? Or is that something I'm going to need to call either the AMEX call centre or the Velocity call centre about?

Velocity has done it for me (as well as adding checked luggage to the booking) - seats can't be selected online.

OLCI is tough to find a URL that works, but use the booking reference and origin (Not velocity number) with this: https://book.virginaustralia.com/SearchWebCheckin.aspx

Hi,

I just did a dummy booking for SYD-ZQN for 1 adult and 1 infant, and infant do not need to pay 10%??? Is it because it's an international short haul and not long haul?

I have another query:

Should I book the amex free ticket under my name or my wifes name? and vice versa the paid ticket. Either way I will still get status credits/miles on VA as there is family pooling correct?
Also I am virgin silver but expiring in sept, not flying until november, can I still pre select seats for both amex ticket and paid ticket even if only one of those will be under my name?

Thanks,
K.

does anyone have any updated experience with this?

have the free flight out tomorrow and would prefer not to pay the luggage charges.

slight sidenote - but looked up the booking on virgin today and saw they have brought flight times forward on both legs and changed the flight number on one of the legs. i guess a lot can change in 8 months!
