Virgin Australia Financially Secure? [Now in Voluntary Administration]

I read somewhere else, yesterday, that were questioning GSTP's credibility (i think over on flyertalk). No reason to question it myself, but without citing sources i'd be skeptical.

One of the problems with that article is we have no idea as to which agent it refers.

If I was VA I’d be getting a junior burger legal onto it and writing a firm friendly legal letter to that site.

All they need is no-news to explode this story and that will be it; the panicking hordes will do the rest.

Roughly 200,000.

I will not be transferring to KF, nor have I

I haven’t either, But don’t have much left in VA anymore as I could never redeem my points in J internationally with them due to rubbish avails and I don’t think that’s going to change anytime soon :)

If these days continue... VA will be lucky to survive.

It’s all timing now.

The Feds are going to have to provide some sort of specific ‘relief’ to AU airlines soon I think. They are a cornerstone sector of our economy.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we see AJ and PS team up again on this one like they did to try and take on the airport monopolies a few months back.

If they wait too long we might have more serious problems.

Another point I started writing and then deleted because of conflicted interest.

I honestly believe that the only way that QF & VA survive is if they pool together and operate flights in tandem, almost like codeshare partners, immediately. It is untenable for competition of any sort to be occurring in the aviation market at the moment. Unfortunately the reality is that QF will think they can outlast VA (and they probably can) so they won't be interested in assisting.

I am glad I flew VS a month ago and ticked a box. Because somehow I doubt the chance will be there in future.

The US banning UK has effectively closed VS down now yes. I don’t know enough about their financial health really or Deltas to comment much though.

I meant more I think AJ and PS will hold hands and lobby Canberra but you raise and interesting scenario above!

Keep in mind QF have huge QFi overheads to deal with that VA do not have thanks to their minor international network.... so maybe that evens the playing field. A little....

Unlikely to happen but I do recall TN&AN operating alternate days on BNE DRWat one time in the 80’s.could be a good way to protect service on routes deemed in the public interest until this mess blows over. That said I’m not holding my breath but strange times

VA are going nowhere. Their underlying profit is positive, it's the writedowns causing the headline figure to be a loss.

Oh true. Still don't understate the underlying implication, if any. What happens if they don't have the liquidity to make good by then?
I guess we'll know for sure by November next year ... :D

There is some information on this upthread ...

I'm not confident VA will survive this. I've just transferred all my velocity points to KrisFlyer.

VA International will probably cease operating with with the 14 day isolation just announced and cede any scraps of their pax to Qantas for the short / medium term.

LAX it will be quite easy to shuffle pax to DL with little disruption.

NZ & DPS though much more difficult. Perhaps your suggestion would in fact be best.

Tokyo is now (obviously) untenable.

Edit: Does this announcement (somewhat paradoxically) make VA's future much more secure? And does it, also paradoxically, make SQ and NZ much much much more at risk? There is a rumour that NZ is going to have a facility set up by the NZ government to draw on...
