Virgin Australia Delays/Cancellations

I'm guessing that the very heavy rain in SYD is responsible for domestic delays on Thursday 11 September.

B738 VH-VUJ is operating VA414, the 1010 hours SYD across to ADL: it was in a queue for takeoff as at 1205 hours.

VA68,, the redeye DPS-SYD, has diverted and just landed in DRW around 5.15 local time. Having spent just over an hour on the ground there the aircraft should arrive in SYD approx 3 hrs behind schedule

Apparently due to staff shortages at Sydney Airport, Airservices Australia has been limiting flights to four minutes apart since 1000 hours and has cancelled any takeoffs between 1530 and 1600 hours today, Friday 12 September.

In an example of Friday 12 delays, VA845 with B738 VH_YFU arrived ex MEL in SYD at 1440 hours, 15 minutes late. Its next flight is the 1500 hours SYD-MEL (VA850) altered to depart at 1545, so expected MEL arrival (subject to no further delays) should be at about 1705-1715 instead of 1635. (I may be underestimating the delays).

Sunday 26th of October has some stormy weather in Brisbane which is generating a diversion for VA1248 ROK-BNE (F100 VH-UQW) the aircraft diverted back to ROK after circling around Hervey Bay.

Monday Nov 3 sees VA875 MEL-SYD (VH-YFS) diverting back to Melbourne. It started circling back around Albury so I suspect this may not be related to the Sydney storms this afternoon

On Monday 24 November 2025, VA165, the 1505 hours mid afternoon ZQN across to SYD was airborne at 1615 with B738 VH-8IK. Arrival should be at 1713 hours, 48 late.

VA 15 (operated by Qatar) delayed 14 hours until 5am tomorrow morning eek

FR24 claims this scheduled 1510 hours departure from BNE to DOH on Monday 24 November will depart at 1020 hours on Tuesday 25, so if true, a 19 hour delay. Aircraft looks to be B773ER A7-BEU.

Is this due to the storms around Brisbane? The $96 million stupid 'new' BoM website is a pain to look up, unlike the previous version where I knew instantly how to find radar maps and much other useful information.

VA website does suggest weather.

It's not a generic BNE port message as other flights show other info making me wonder if the aircraft was damaged during this afternoons storm?

Huge thanks. The fracas re the 'new' site occurred while I was overseas: while I checked news daily, for an inexplicable reason I was unaware of the debate. Is the 'original' (i.e. 'alpha') version likely to remain accessible for the foreseeable future?
No clue how long but I suspect a while especially after all the recent press plus extra moving parts we don't use.

I think what a lot of people are missing is that yes part of the upgrade was a new look website/app but also the servers which until recently had no security certificates (apparently weren't capable but have had issues). It's not a simple thing when recent articles suggested 1.8 million people visit the site per day but also feeding data to 3rd party apps like windy or even flightradar24 to display weather radars where such information is still obtained by an FTP server.

There are currently a lot of things not upgraded like the aviation weather portal:
Most on the site probably never visit the above or even know about it but its a fact there are teams at both major airlines constant checking this data all the time. A side note is that I do sometimes check the ash cloud info when a problem around bali but that's about it.
