Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

On SYD-MEL right now and got the scrambled eggs with chicken sausage (again). What happened to the bacon?

Ummm, bit of a fanboy when it comes to VA J catering ( for the price), but that looks nasty

From the description & photo it's totally cough to me, looks horrible.

The purple lighting always makes it difficult to take a decent photo, viz. throws off the colour balance altogether.

Can't quite tell what the rice is, and the chicken doesn't look like the greatest cuts, but if the taste is good (and the chicken isn't dry) then I'm happy to forgive.

It was actually pretty tasty. The rice wasn't dry (like in previous meals).

CBR>MEL, mid-afternoon flight.
Risoni salad with a lemon dressing, pickled onions, feta and grilled chicken. Was fresh, zingy and made for a perfect late lunch.
Other option was described as a vegetarian tortellini salad, with optional chicken. Didn’t see anyone pick that.

On a side note, the J seats looked and felt like they were fresh from the factory, without any scratches or marks yet…..but the tray table in my seat was incredibly saggy. To the point the meal tray even started to slide away on me at one point!

Some people open the tray table before the mechanism clicks in place hence why the saggy tray table.

Solution is to close it and reopen by having to pull the tray table right up from the stowage until it clicks in place and then open it up.

Just boarded and these are our seats. It's been so long since Ive flown domestic, didn't realise they removed the purple barrier behind J class

Haven't figured out how to get the tray out yet as its not popping up

You need to open the side (so on the right since you're in 1F) and lift the lever that's like a black square with a pictogram on it.

You might also want to delete that second photo; we know what your name and Velocity number is ...

NAN-MEL about a week ago, 7/8 in business class.

The best service I've had from an amazing CSM - Kept the water and gin and tonic full for the whole flight!

Food choices were a noodle dish and a beef curry (pictured) with great fresh rice, coleslaw and a very very nice pineapple cake/slice.

Kids were kept happy with cheese and crackers and maybe a few ham and cheese toasties...

KGI-PER in the E2 last Friday night. Both options were cold salads, understandable for such a short flight. Thoroughly enjoyed the pasta salad with parma ham and cheese. While the CM got myself and the other pax confused and was very apologetic - I didn't mind though. All staff on board seemed to be very switched on and proud of their new Jet (strictly I believe the first with J for VARA?)

Not pictured: the Grant Burge sparkling from the choice of "white or red".

Sydney to Launceston

Comfort food meals but nothing to rave about. No salad, no bread roll, some cheese and crackers and a sad single piece of Cadbury favourites as a sweet

Beef with mash and gravy and a mushy piece of broccoli or a Mexican bean and some bits of veggies with rice and optional added chicken. Was impressed with how much beef was served and wished there was more of the Mexican bean mix.

If you ask for more chocolate, the CSM will gladly bring you more. They have tim tams too. (IME if you ask for more than two refills, they eventually understand that you have a sweet tooth and bring a handful... 😁)

Probably best you don't mention any extra services offered. Don't want the crew getting in trouble with their good intentions!

VA680 PER-MEL dep 0645 a/c 738

Breakfast service onboard this morning was a choice between a breakfast burrito or scrambled eggs with potato and tomato with Cajun hollandaise. The latter I think is basically a deconstruction of the former, except no cheese, no bacon, no wrap and Cajun hollandaise instead of relish.

I opted for the burrito, which was stuffed with cheesy scrambled eggs, bacon and potato, covered with a tomato and paprika relish. For the purists, no, it's not a true tortilla, just a normal white wrap. The potato inside the wrap was very floury and essentially had no taste, so probably better if VA left them out and just had the eggs and bacon (maybe another ingredient inside). Otherwise, the entire dish tasted great.

On the side was yoghurt with apple and cranberry granola - probably about 2-3 spoons worth - and a packaged apple and cinnamon raw slice. Coffee was available - of course, not the espresso kind, which is fine.

CSM Jess was very bubbly and ran a professional service. Orders were taken 1DF, 1AB, 2DF then 2AB. Drinks were delivered first before food trays arrived later, probably about a 20 min gap between drinks and food. Jess made sure the J cabin was well provisioned with drinks at all times. I think due to the length of the flight, the service proceeded at a very leisurely pace.

One of the pax in J was a mum and her weeks old baby. The latter clearly commanded all the attention including the crew 🙂 and she didn't cry a single tear all flight.

VA at PER was a bit of a mess this morning (though not entirely their fault due to improvement works at T1). The lines for check-in, including premium, were massive. Even with 2 premium desks, the line moved slow. Check-in management agents were yelling constantly for passengers on flights about to close to break line and come forward, which just made the whole queueing mess a lot worse (doesn't help when you hear "Sydney! Melbourne! Brisbane!", but that accounts for about 3-6 flights within the next 2 hours). My check-in agent clearly wasn't pleased about the mess and was quite annoyed at me from having not tagged my bag previously at a kiosk. Then the baggage belts at check-in stopped temporarily. Priority screening line was available, but no one was checking for eligibility.

On board, we got the 738 with J, YX and Y, with no divider and no curtain. Use of the front toilet wasn't controlled for J pax only, i.e. quite a few Y pax came forward to use. Wifi did not work initially (apparently even the pilots couldn't use the wifi to use their tablets, so had to revert to an offline approach), with the login protal unable to activate my session after entering in my last name and seat number. The solution was to use the Contact Us and start a live chat, then tell the agent the situation. The agent gave me a code and told me to purchase a Flight Pass, entering in the code when paying for the Pass. The code removes the cost of the Pass, rendering it free. Bit of a rigmarole overall.
