Virgin Australia Business Class - Meals, Menus & Service

On a J flight two weeks ago with us in 2A and 2C, my wife asked for the vegetarian option, which luckily was still available.
The CM told us to mention that you are vegetarian when PDBs are served and the CM will put a vegetarian option aside for you.

I'm glad mine was saucier otherwise it would have been quite dry?
It’s the same dish as the mustard chicken that was doing the rounds for a couple of years. Identical treatment of the protein (shape and texture of the pieces), but different sauce.

It was usually fine, never dry.

i wonder if you were the highest status passenger? or if some CMs are still doing the ‘oh we should mix up the ordering order to give lower status pax a choice’ routine?

I still don’t understand why they bother with that massive side plate. Perhaps it’s meant to glam up the cheese and crackers but to me every time I see it, it just makes the whole meal seem smaller and incomplete. Bread is not expensive.
Logistics.

Some flights use the side plate for an additional course, for example the trans-cons.

If you only loaded the side plate when it was actually needed, you could end up with none in MEL or SYD when you need them for a SYD/MEL-PER.

Can four side plates not be placed to the side for half an hour?

To your point, this has always reminded me, “We’re not serving you a full meal like we do to Perth.” Fine, but don’t rub it in my face.

(In the hierarchy of gripes this isn’t high but I still find it odd.)

Maybe some pax don’t like eating their cheese and crackers from a plastic container and prefer to use a plate? Not me personally, but I’m sure there are some… perhaps like those who won’t drink directly from a bottle or can and always need a glass, etc.
