Just wondering if any other Velocity Platinum members have had success in getting the call centre to allocate row 3 for non status passengers travelling on the same flight, but on a separate booking?

They used to do it willingly but about 18 months ago the call centre wouldnt do it anymore. I then lost platinum a few months later anyhow so I can't comment on any tried more recent to that.

I had no trouble doing it in April - and the other ticket was three people on an award. No questions asked - maybe I got lucky

Can you please stop dragging the riff raff to the front of the cabin ;)

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Not had a problem doing so. The problem is more in trying to get fly-ahead for your travelling companion when they are travelling on your points and are therefore on a separate booking. The fact that the Virgin website makes it such that they can't be on the same booking as you seems to elude them.

I generally call up Virgin once I make the seperate bookings (mine paid, points used for my travelling companion) and ask for the bookings to be linked.
Can't recall having issues flying ahead with a linked booking before.

did it yesterday in the lounge for a group booking of 6, they split my partner and i from the original 8 person booking, i upgraded us to J, asked them if the rest could 'be closer to us at the front' and voila, they were all row 3,,,, many many plats on the very full friday arvo peak time rush from SYD to BNE.

I did it 3 weeks ago. Both my husband and I are VA Platinum & our friend was travelling with us on a separate booking (paid on my credit card 2 months later than our booking). I phoned up the same day as I booked for him (8 days before travel) and requested 3C to join us. We did the same for the way back.

No Luck for me in March. Flew the whole family (5) BNE-CNS for my wifes birthday. She and I were in J and the kids (all red) were booked in saver lite. My eldest daughter had never flown J so I asked the call centre if I could let her have my J seat and I'd take her saver lite. No sorry. Asked if the kids could be seated closer to us (hinted row 3). No sorry. Asked if I could upgrade our daughter to J. No sorry.

Please don't get me wrong, all the answers were correct, however it seems to show that some will do a few nice things and some won't. In the end, I just swapped seats on board with my daughter (with the approval of the FA), but it meant I had row 365!
