It is certainly a bit odd seeing HA at the top, and EY down the bottom!

I suppose the reality is that EY is a shadow of an airline compared to what it used to be, similarly SA and the Hainan group. VS is different. I understand given no direct connections, but still ironic given the shared Virgin branding.

Looks like VA has a deeper relationship with HA, basically a way to get to Hawaii and also has connections to other US cities.

On the other hand VS has a strong relationship with the SkyTeam airlines (Delta + Air France/KLM). Not long ago VA used their Hong Kong flight as a way to connect to the VS flight from Hong Kong to London. While in recent months VA has connected more with the major A* airlines. Not as big of a relationship between VA and VS these days. VS not returning to Sydney soon (last time was 2014).

The QR pickup kind of 'suspended' the *A momentum for the moment.

JH was on record by saying they'll work with anyone that'll fit their needs, so I wouldn't be surprised if KE or GA (Bali/Jakarta/Indonesian domestic connections) comes into the frame for codeshare + VFF burn (even if those two don't eventuate).

Another example is putting the VA code alongside the 10+ UA codeshare partners including the non-Star UA partners such as EI.

PR might be another one to look into. They are in no alliance themselves but NH have a minority stake in them. PR has excellent connections through MNL and already run flights to SYD/MEL/BNE almost daily. Would be far better than GA IMO

Any idea on when we'll be able to buy cash tickets on VA's website for SQ flights?
Or QR / United, etc?
I know I can book rewards seats on SQ on VA's website, but not cash it appears.

Reason for asking is as a AIA Vitality member, I get 50% off economy / premium economy tickets on VA's website. I've previously booked a PE ticket via VA's website for a flight pre-Covid flying on SQ and saved about $2k.

UPDATE:
The United flights are now available to be booked via the AIA Vitality / Virgin portal.
An example is below, as you'll see that the economy tickets have the AIA Vitality flag, meaning I'll get back 50%. Screenshot 2022-07-03 at 11.01.00.png

However, the benefit is also on Premium Economy flights. The problem I'm having now is I don't see any PE flights on United via Virgin. Am I missing something?

They are not reward flights but are pure points flights which are a very poor use of points

How much for reward points please?

Business reward is 95k velocity points each way Sydney to LA. A month ago I paid 65k velocity points each way for business reward Brisbane to Singapore (flying Singapore Airlines).

ACCC has tentatively approved VA's application to set their prices on their codeshare flights with international partners. The UA codeshare is already in operation (separate application) and it has been announced SQ and QR will be first partners to have the VA codes on their flights ex-Australia after the tentative approval decision.

All other international partners of VA will follow after the QR and SQ codeshares has been entered into the GDS and are operational.

Out of interest, I don’t suppose that flying on a VA coded partner airline is going to change the ad hoc access to lounges or premium benefits is it?

I get this is read from the SimpleFlying article, but VA has requested to the IASC to dump the old EY codeshares via AUH in favour of replacing them with QR codeshares via DOH.

The request to re-implement codeshares on the SQ flights will remain. Confirming VA's new 'Big 3' to be UA, QR and SQ.

The rates are published on the Velocity points tables:

MEL-LAX is 7,921 miles so a reward seat would cost 95,500 Velocity points one-way for business class (if available).
