Hi all,

I have 2 questions:

1. I have been a VA Platinum member for 4 years, of which for 2 years running I earned over 2000 SC within the 12 month period (meaning I could gift platinum to someone). Unfortunately not much travel this year has seen me miss Platinum status re-qual. (290SC short so a fair bit:shock:). I have heard of VA being 'generous' and allowing some members to keep platinum for 1 more year if they don't re-qualify. What do you think my chances are? Not to fussed either way as there is little difference between the gold and plat.

2. VA Status expiry - my membership went up for review on 21 Aug and as i said before, i should qual for platinum. I am flying on Thurs 1 Sept with 3 friends who have no status so I would like to take them into the lounge. My Platinum Card expires on 21 Sept. Will I be able to take 3 guests into the lounge still?
Obviously my Gold card won't arrive by then but I'm sure my account will be reviewed by then...will they look up my account and say sorry you are only gold now, or does platinum benefits still exist for me till my card expiry date?

thanks all

I would give them a call on Monday and ask them to comp you another year of Platinum ... your 4 year average will be taken into consideration and they should grant you another year

if they comp you .. question 2 becomes irrelevant :p ... however does the card not say valid for 30 days after the expire date ? so that would be the 20th Sep.... but could get lucky if gold

Not sure about Q1, but if your Platinum card expires on 21 Sept, I believe you will continue to get all Platinum benefits until that date.

Earlier this year I dropped to SG after a review period of about two weeks, so it was faster than the four. With that, subsequent crediting was as for SG, not WP even though it was still within the 30 days.

Shortly after I qualified WP again.

My take from that was, while tatus reviews can take up to four weeks, they can be are complete after only a couple. From which time your new status will be reflected on your account. Note that VA should recognize your WP status (at least for lounge access) for the additional month, even if you do drop.

So, you can ask as indicated... they may comp you anyway but you would not generally find out until your account changes from "under review". The review is not likely to be complete by September 1.

Interesting - my wife went through the same thing at the end of last year - dropped from Platinum to Gold and then qualified for Platinum again a while later, and she was credited with Platinum level bonus points for all flights that she took during the month following her review date. However, I just checked her account and the last flight she took during that period was 20 days after her review date. Until now I had assumed that they just keep giving Platinum benefits for the whole month, but it sounds like maybe she just got lucky and they didn't complete her review until at least 3 weeks after her review date.
