Apparently VA8 was cancelled today due to aircraft damage at LAX, anyone know more, depending on the damage that could make for some interesting times ahead.

My OH was due to fly on VA23 BNE - HKT today which was cancelled as a result of no operating aircraft. Quite poorly handled by VA in terms of notifying pax...he had a connection from MEL at 6am...assuming the plane never left LAX we could likely have been notified Saturday night Aus time and opted to take a later connection up to BNE. HKT passengers are flying at 4am Monday morning on Strategic Airlines and have been accommodated in hotels in BNE all day.

Tomorrows BNE - LAX is also cancelled.

From what little I have been told the aircraft impacted something fairly solid (not another aircraft - concrete pole  was mentioned) during pushback or taxi.

Apparently the tail impacted with the terminal on pushback (I told them to take the reversing cam option), that sounds like it might be a while before its back!

...just waiting on an update on how the flight was on Strategic Airlines...should be arriving in coughet any time now. My OH will be very grumpy, they were collected from the hotel in BNE at midnight and the flight didnt leave until 0525...nice!

How the heck does that happen? Are there some tight parking spots at LAX and the pushback tug driver had poor aim? Not to mention that there must have been a bit of a scare with respect to the part of the terminal which was impacted and any possible persons who might have been in proximity to the impact area?

The silliest kind of mistake I've heard since that incident with the catering truck impacting the side of a QF aircraft.

Will VA struggle with one of its 773s off line?

And there is absolutely no trace of this incident any where except on this forum! Where'd you get your info from, markis10? (Don't get me wrong, I'm not doubting you...)

Did a Google news search and nothing for the past 24hrs relating to this 'incident' at all?

...and nothing on AVHerald website either.

Some new mention of backing into the jet-blast deflector. How could the tug/engineer miss that, apart from reversing radar which I believe only Citations/Crash 8's have to avoid bird strike from the rear??;)

Its all over the planespotters board, they wondered why it had not come home, and why the flights are now cancelled for the next few days.

Which flights have been cancelled? Not many seats avail on QF for VA to move to AFAIK.

We flew with VA LAX-SYD in June. The gate meant that indeed the aircraft is parked at a different angle to what all the previous (smaller) ones had been at in the previous 3hrs. To my untrained eye it seemed that the VA flight waits until all flights to SEA etc are gone then comes in at roughly right angles to how the others have been parked- remember I said I have no technical kowledge

They could always butter up to DL? They have a loose alliance, don't they?

At least...

22/8 BNE - coughet (being operated by Strategic Airlines 1 day late)
22/8 coughet - BNE (being operated by Strategic Airlines 1 day late)
23/8 BNE - LAX

Their website provides no live flight info...and the info available on virginblue is just plain poor...seems to rely on some Adobe graphics viewer which is no longer supported. Shoddy.

Hmmm still suprised at no news at the moment.. Maybe in the next 3 days time.. It would be good to know what happened in more detail.

Could even use FJ via NAN or NZ via AKL to find seats and avoid subsidising QF.

True but VA along with DJ have agreements with JQ/QF for FIM agreements. Discounted (but still expensive) rates for flight disruptions.
