VA Gold on Etihad

I have an upcoming SYD-AUH-FRA trip with Etihad, first time flying with them, Y all the way except SYD-AUH in J. Based on some stories I've read here partner benefits don't always line up with what's written on the Velocity website.

I'm interested to hear others' experiences with receiving perks/recognition as a VA SG - especially in terms of things like lounge access (especially in FRA) and success asking for an express pass through customs/immigration. Anyone able to comment on these?

VA SG in SYD will get you the lounge and express path. On the way back you will have to ask for it specifically as for some strange reason EY hands these out only to EY status pax.
Lounge access will be fine, EY allows for access to VA SG and this has not been a problem for me in some of the ports that I have traveled thru.

I've flown EY using Alitalia status and it was a breeze (even with my VA Silver status on my BPs). Really enjoyed the SYD lounge - very relaxed, great food and they only called our flight for boarding once all other PAXs were on-board and seated. We sat down and the doors closed a few minutes later. This was whilst travelling in economy too.

I'd imagine flying with status printed on your BP would make things even easier, as there was momentary confusion whenever I provided the BP with a conflicting status.
