VA Codeshare on Singapore (SQ) - seat selection?

A bit of a hit-and-miss, it seems. Just booked my codeshare flights for 2 pax last evening, ex. MEL - KUL via SIN in late January. The call with VA was straightforward as I got my SQ PNR in no time. Not so lucky with SQ, however.

I can't seem to allocate any seats and the SQ customer service officer I spoke to said that I am only able to select the seats T-48hrs from day of departure. He's specifically asked for my preferred seat numbers so that they'll allocate the soonest possible. I checked again this morning and SQ website shows that only one of my two sector flights have been allocated, and it's not the one I picked. My partner's seats remain unallocated.

Checked Expertflyer and clearly indicated that the preferred seats were still available at time of call with the SQ customer guest officer. Then again, not fuss but I guess no harm trying still!
 
Digging up an older thread - I have my VA and SQ PNRs but can only select window or aisle preference (as VA gold). Might try calling SQ tomorrow - or roll the dice. For this sale price, probably can't be picky :)

I was in your same boat, got the SQ PNR from VA and then call SQ (can't do it online) and got confirmed seating - happy days :)

I was able to select seats at time of booking as a VA Gold but couldn't select seats for wife and daughter on same booking as wife is only Bronze.

Now need to try and get bassinet. Not sure whether to call now or wait until airport check-in in 5 days.

I have no status with VA but I was able to select seats by calling SQ

What a mess. The SQ call centre is not great. I can hear people shouting in the background. Qantas is making a huge mistake.

Anyway finally got into the booking after she stopped including the "A for alpha" in the booking reference. She mentioned that 3-4 times and that is not what I recited.

Firstly couldn't request bassinet. On hold. Ok bassinet request in now. How about allocating seats for the 3 of us? Oh you want seats allocated. On hold again. I have allocated bassinet aisle seat for yourself and daughter. What about my wife? Oh I can't allocate sests for her. Just great. When can we allocate seats? 48 hours before flight.

I can see this is going to be fun. I don't want to call SQ again. I guess I need to be prepared that wife and I won't be sitting together and I'm taking care of daughter on those flights. ;)
 
And after all my criticism looked at my booking this morning and wife has been allocated seat next to me in the bassinet row. So looks like wife can rest and I will take care of daughter on the flight.

Anyone think if it will be possible for the lounge staff to pre-allocate upper deck bulkhead for return flight on A380 next month? Will ask anyway just interested in knowing success rates.
 
Called SQ - well didn't that take forever to figure out which number to call!. They seemed to think they couldn't allocated seats, but rattled off a couple of seat number which were middle seats in the second last row :shock: I had a lot of trouble understanding her though.

What number are you guys calling?
