VA Codeshare on Singapore (SQ) - seat selection?

Sounds like you need to HUACA. It took some time as they needed to contact another department but eventually, as wrote on previous post, I managed to select seats on all flights and got conformation on MyFlights app, so definitely can be done.
 
I didn't realise but I have been allocated seats on all my flights. Aisle seat as per my preference. Not great aisle seats but still an aisle seat. Interesting that I have been allocated 50E on the A380 on 2 flights. It is an aisle seat with no 50D.

Only problem is wife and daughter have not been allocated a seat. Message in email is "check-in required". Velocity Red is probably the reason. May call up and see if can pre-allocate bassinet otherwise wait until 48 hours before departure.
 
We were allocated seats in the SQ equivalent of "emerald city", must have picked up my partner 's status (Solitaire PPS ) even though booking on SQ code.
 
Same "problem here" - called VA and they gave me SQ reservation number but it wasn't recognised online / using the app. Will try and call SQ tomorrow to try my luck over the phone!

On the subject - I'm *A Gold with UA, do you think I have any changes getting my ff# changed from VA to UA? I have no status on VA so *A Gold should give me access to SQ lounges (provided they are OK with the VA codeshare...)

I don't think you'll have any issues crediting to different program but not sure you'll earn anything on UA with VA codeshares?
 
If the ticket was booked on virgin airlines but all flights are with Singapore, do you check in at the virgin counter or Singapore counter?
 
It's a VA booking, though on SQ metal, so don't put your MileagePlus number on it. Those miles will be wasted. Instead, use either SQ or VA's FFP when check in to earn miles. When you arrive at SIN, present your UA gold card with your boarding pass to enter lounge.
 
Okay, so I called VA and got my SQ reference number. Then I called SQ to get my seats. She assigned me the same seating (window near the tail end) for 3 of the flights except the SIN to FRA one because apparently it wasn't available to assign yet. So calling them up works since the app didn't work.
 
Just rang Singapore airlines , gave my SQ booking number and the lady allocated all my seats for ADL-ICN return .

I hate this about SQ, what the point of being in an alliance if they can't even offer up advanced seating. I tried calling and emailing and was told they could only put my preference in and couldn't guarantee my selection until check-in, this is as VA WP or *G.

I know remember the reason why I ditched SQ flights to BKK in favour of TG
 
I had no luck so far.. tired 4 different times.. the agents gave the same reason.. seats can only be selected @48 hours from flight as it is a codeshare flight... I will try again later... hopefully the agent will be able to assign the seats... i should remember next time not to book on VA code share..

They do, you just have to book on the SQ code, not the VA code. And they are in an alliance - star alliance - which VA has chosen not to join.

When are your flights?

I am only Virgin Gold and was pre-allocated my aisle seating preference for the SQ flights I booked on VA website with VA codeshare for February/March.

SQ and VA are partner airways, this to me is an alliance. Even when I've booked SQ directly the advanced seat selection is ordinary.

I also have *G with 2 airlines and this doesn't make a difference to SQ, I've never had great luck with SQ hence why I switched to TG

My flights aren't until May, they did tell me because I have aisle selected as preference in my krisflyer profile that they will try to allocate me an aisle seat, but this hasn't flowed through to my booking yet, it still shows no seats selected. I was told to check-in online T-48 to select individual seats, I don't have an isssue with this, but don't understand why it's so difficult to select seats in advance? Every other airline I've ever flown has no issue with it.

I will try again closer to May, maybe have better luck then
 
I tried calling VA this morning and they weren't helpful at all. The guy couldn't even give me the SQ PNR.

So I called SQ and they were much better. They were able to retrieve my booking using the e-ticket number, then were able to select seats for all flights and pass on the SQ PNR for future reference.
 
What number are you calling? I tried their reservations team and the couldn't help other than to say that my seating preference in my profile they will try to honour

I don't quite understand how as a VA Gold I was pre-allocated aisle seats yet you as a VA Platinum did not have any seats pre-allocated.
 
Beats me also. There appears to be no rhyme or reason.

Even with aisle as my preference in my krisflyer profile, my seating is still showing as unallocated
