V Australia fleet

As I understand it, V Australia has a fleet of 5 773's which service LAX and AUH from the East Coast.
Are there any more aircraft on order or are their expansion plans based on partnerships with other airlines ?

I would think partnerships (for now) and domestic expansion/rebranding are the main focus areas at the moment, but I have no knowledge of anything else, it would just seem there’s a lot on their plate as it is.

They actually cancelled some option(s) for 777s that originally were firm orders!

For what it’s worth, I was told pretty much exactly that by an FA on VA2 LAX-SYD last weekend. DJ gets the focus this year but they’ve been told that next year the focus will turn to VA.

The timelines presented so far indicate v is getting its makeover next year. Can't imagine much will happen fleet wise till that happens.

As others have pointed out - that is it for DJ's foray internationally on their own metal. They are very firmly focussed on extracting a better return from their domestic operation which is the right thing to do IMHO.

It wouldn't suprise me if they purchase a few A330s, and put them on routes to asia. Asia destinations Ex Australia always seem to require stopovers...

Flying their 777's to hub cities of their partner airlines, LAX, AUH & SIN (SQ?)

It'd be nice to be able to fly to HKT, SGN or places like that directly out from the east coast. VA did seem to be on the right track, but changed their plan. I'm sure they'll put their A330's on that route once they get the aircraft to do it.

It will be interesting to see what strategy Virgin have in place for Asia expansion. Will it be:

- competing head to head on established hubs; SIN, BKJ, HKG

- targeting other major cities with no or little competition for direct flights. Eg KUL, SGN, TYO.
Article refers to possible partnership with MH, so does that make it likely or unlikely for KUL?

- target leisure routes, HKT, DPS

I'm hoping for KUL or SGN, to expand choice of direct destinations serviced by Aussie airlines.
