Anybody else having trouble with China Eastern reward bookings?
Even though I have a Qantas e-ticket itinerary and receipt, China Eastern has no record of my booking. When I visited their Melbourne office I was told that Qantas had to contact them with the booking information. When I contacted Qantas Customer Care I was told nothing could be done until China Eastern gave THEM the booking code (which, they said, could be months away).
So I am being told two totally different stories.
Qantas has assured me that the booking is confirmed - but not according to China Eastern.

Have you already chosen your seats Adrian?
My flights were from Sydney to PVG and then onward to Okinawa.
What I did was to email the China Eastern office in Melbourne/Sydney, gave them my ticket number starting with 081 and told them my preferred seats.
They allocated them to me within 5 hours and I can see my seats all show up when I log into my Qantas account and check under my bookings.
I guess having a seat sort of means a confirmed ticket.
May want to try that out, hopefully it works.
Already emailed Melb. office as well as visited in person. Didn't want to know me, stressed that Qantas has to communicate to them about booking.

We booked 2 x J+ on MU - SYD/PVG using QFF points few weeks back, could not select seats on new A350 so had China Eastern office here do it.

Hi Adrian, have you tried verifying your tickets here? www.travelsky.com/tsky/

On the right hand side, there are 3 fields; the first is for your 081-xx_ ticket number. The second is the passenger name. Unfortunately it has a very picky format so if you're listed as "Mr Adrian Guest" on your Qantas ticket, you should enter:
GUEST/ADRIANMR

Other combinations include (and sometimes, you need a space between the names and title)
[LASTNAME]/[FIRSTNAME]
[LASTNAME]/[FIRSTNAME][TITLE]
[LASTNAME]/[FIRSTNAME][MIDDLENAME]
[LASTNAME]/[FIRSTNAME][MIDDLENAME][TITLE]
[LASTNAME]/[FIRSTNAME][MIDDLEINITIAL]
[LASTNAME]/[FIRSTNAME][MIDDLEINITIAL][TITLE]

It also tends to get overloaded so you might need to come back to it and try it a few times.

Thanks great idea, found my booking on Travelsky, so China Eastern must have it. Will front up to China Eastern office with print out from Travelsky.

Sorry but you seem to be missing the point, I get you have wealth of travel knowledge and experience but this thread is about booking MU rewards with QF points.
I think we're presenting the same scenario in a different way.

If Qantas has issued an 081 ticket that doesn't mean Qantas has actually booked the MU flight which yes can be a serious issue. We've heard many reports on AFF where this has happened with Qantas and other airlines and sometimes not easy to fix.

CE still didn't accept it, adamant that there was (and never will be a booking). Rang Qantas again, same story, booking is safe. I wrote to Qantas to ask for a written assurance that they will compensate me if booking is lost. Not happy.

Why won't Qantas just cancel and remake the booking (and waive the cancellation charge).

When I was having trouble with my bookings QF did try this for me but then indicated that the booking would not stick.

If it was me I would ask QF to see if they can book the MU seats bu going into the MU system. When I asked this I was initially told by SST that this was not possible, however I asked them to give it a go as someone had already allocated by +1 and daughters seats and it was not me. After some initial resistance the agent gave it a go and allocated my reading as requested then went on to say I did not know we can do that. It maybe an SST thing however I would assume some CC supervisor would have the same level of access.

If all else fails and you are not comfortable I would pay the additional points and most likely smaller taxes and try to get on CX or JL, both of these airlines are better than MU in my experience.

Did you manage to fix it in the end?

I had the same issue in May, spent 5 days contacting QFF and CE before departure, no luck.

CE refused to let me board the flight because my "QFF confirmed booking" is not a valid booking in CE's system. QFF moved me to another flight later that day, I ended up spending 13 hours at PVG airport.

This is crazy. QFF needs to fix this problem. Plan to visit CE office again (my flight is not til next March).

Wow that is concerning. Also very frustrating for you!

What was your initial booking?

I have SYD-PVG-LGW for May 2020 and starting to feel a bit concerned about this...

My flight to Okinawa is in November and they changed my SYD-PVG leg to the B787 from A330 so I emailed them again to change my seats with the 081- ticket number.

Response was within the hour and seats changed without fuss.

I hope the actual travel come November will be as smooth without too much hassles

Thanks for the tip! I tried that and had a really quick turnaround - and like you, my seat allocations now show up on my Qantas manage booking page.

Thanks for this advice, followed it and had success!

How far out from your flights were you? MU allocated me seats but they have yet to show on QF app for me.
