Hi all,

I have a flight early in the morning on qantas business class and ive found myself staying overnight at melb airport, just like to know if its possible to use the qantas lounge the night before the flight? I have my boarding pass already which is available 24 hours before the flight to gain access to the lounge, if that helps?

The vast majority of airline lounges close overnight. Many others are only open for a few hours a day prior to that airlines own flights.

The only lounges I can think of that are open 24 hours are the SATS and Danta lounges in Singapore and the EK and QR lounges at their main hubs in DXB and DOH.
No Qantas lounge is open overnight. You have no way of staying in a lounge at MEL overnight. If you don't want a hotel room for a short period, then you're better off looking at sleepinginairports.net.

The QF lounge is not a hotel or open 24/7. If you are asking if you can rack out there over night it is not possible. Stay in the hotels near by.

Have a feeling it would be better (and easier) just to eat dinner at the hotel. Breakfast (of some description) on the other hand can be had at the lounge before boarding. Is this domestic or international?
International flight into Melb at night leaving Melb domestic in the morning

Domestic lounge fine dining guide:

Breakfast: 1 toasted sandwich
Lunch: 2 toasted sandwiches
Dinner: 3 toasted sandwiches

Isn't lounge access only available with a same-day boarding pass? In which case no, not possible to use the lounge the night before (unless you somehow qualify for arrivals access from your previous flight).

Sometimes I can't believe posters on here quibbling about a few dollars of taxes/fees. This post takes it to a whole new level

So many good restaurants/cafes in Melbourne to eat

MEL T1 domestic airport opens about 4.30am prior to first flight to SYD.
Because the domestic side is not 24 hours, and its only accessible via domestic screening, you cannot go into the secure zone at wink wink midnight and find a quiet spot to "hide".
Yes, I do realise you have hotel booked overnight, just saying that there is no way to get into T1 without passing domestic security.
And if you wait there too early, the gate at domestic screening do not open till the set time.
If I remember correctly, MEL T1 security will start screening at 5am or so.
If you are going to the Ibis Budget, grin, you will need to check yourself in via the auto door, if the Holiday Inn, they are 24 hours, if the Parkroyal, they are 24 hours too.
T2 is separate from T1, at MEL, so you would have to go out into the open zone, after your international flight, no way to get from T2 prior to incoming immigration and quarantine to get to T1 domestic secure zone.
EDIT: yes, Melbourne has many good restaurants, the city that is, but its expensive and time consuming to get from the airport to the city and back again in so short a time.
Will end my diatribe here.

The rules suggest that if you are arriving on an international QF J flight and connecting the next morning then you will have access to the lounge.

For practical purposes, they will start to pack up the food well before the last domestic flight leaves at around 9pm. There should be a hot food option in the business lounge which could hopefully pass off as dinner depending on what it is.

A variation on this: I will fly into Melbourne from Canberra mid-afternoon before flying out internationally on Emirates the next morning. My mother is flying from OOL and will land 20-30 minutes before me - can she access the lounge in the domestic terminal while waiting for me? We'll then head to our hotel until the next morning. We're flying business.

@chk123
I believe lounge access in on a same day basis only. Not available “as soon as” boarding pass is issued.

@Ms_KH
Sorry the answer is no but if your mother is travelling QF from OOL and is a QF Platinum FF - then the answer is yes.

As it's such a short difference in arrival times, I would suggest your mother checks what gate you arrive at and go there to meet you. Then you can both go downstairs to collect luggage and go to the hotel together.
