In theory could a travel agent make it easier for me to book a complicated multi city flight booking without having to resort to the long wait times on the phone to Qanats.

A close friend owns a travel agency but I guess I have the problem of transferring them the points.

Is there any scenario you can think of where this could be a benefit?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

If you are looking to use points as payment (or part payment), then you will need to stick with Qantas directly unfortunately. Only they can accept points.

I am also a lowly bronze and am looking for a travel agent who is experienced in booking award flights. We are a family of four, looking to travel to the USA in January 2021. Would that be the golden trifecta of impossibilities?? Cash payment of course!

Thank you Serfty. I have just contacted that particular business to see what they can offer, although they require travel dates to be 12 months out from completion and mine are not. I fear that departing flights could be dried up before return flights are added, and it may be better to book as separate.

Talking of lowly bronze.....a very surprise gift came at Christmas -the family gave my brother and I airfares to the UK to catch up with rellies, 34 years since he's been. For me it's 8. He's 6'4 and has a dodgy back and he would have to spend the majority of the trip standing!! so MrMac has offered to pay for the balance to fly premium economy. Do you think I'd be better to use a TA or one of the websites I see when I google? I have zero points; probably MrMac won't have enough to go via QF

For #6, be wary of sites outside official channels that promise upgrades with money or points.
I feel you are stuck in Y as there is no way to pay for upgrades with $ unless QF offers it via bid or other QFF in your family can move points to use points.
Google websites or TA cant help once you have a PNR.

Bronze member here aswell. It depends what you are after economy, premium or business.
The last trip the wife and I did Mel-lax on QF in business via QF points. We booked for the July period and booked within a few days of the tickets being released.

If you can’t get 4 tickets in one go you can try calling, advise the situation, ask politely and you may be able to get seats released or get another option from the agent. I have had this done for me before, when there has been a heap of availability on business but I could only get 1 seat as a Bronze.

Award booking is typically seen very binary by many (what you see is what you can get), but you will be surprised what a little friendly conversation and persistence can yield.

When you are Bronze you have to get your hustle game on or accept the crumbs.

KSC, good to know you've had a positive experience with getting seats released!
I've been trying to cobble something together from the crumbs but so far have only managed PE, with business being our preference. Of course not actually on Qantas but Cathay, which makes the trip approx. 2.5 times longer! Maybe I should be happy with 4 seats together in any class, with it being the most popular destination (USA) and the busiest time (Christmas/NY). I just don't know?!

I guess a phone call can't hurt at this stage, although i suspect they will laugh in my face.

Ensure you speak with kindness, confidence, belief and conviction. Let them know you are travelling as a family and business is better suited for your family so your children can sleep and be less disruptive.
If they can’t do anything, ask if they have a supervisor that can authorise a change.

It can be tedious and time consumin and may take a few tries.

If they do actually laugh at you, it’s a good thing. You then have some leverage :)
