The outstanding Australian behind this initiative, Dave Drury, has alerted me that the sleeping bags in question are 50% off on the Qantas Store through what appears to be the end of June.
It's the start of winter and Dave's stocks are as dry as a Doha lounge during Ramadan so this is an excellent opportunity.
As a bit of an incentive, for each person that donates a bag, I will match it and donate one too, up to a maximum of five bags. It needs to be done by 12am CAT (because Adelaide and Darwin folks never get an love in this regard (and others, presumably, but that's another thread)) this Friday 8 June and you will need to provide proof that you made the purchase directly to a moderator (probably
@Admin, but certainly not to me) but I haven't had a chance to run it passed the powers yet. Once your purchase has been verified I'll buy one to match.
A single bag is just 11630 points and $0, or 5k points and $33.61 and every other possible permutation you can think of.
Points for Purpose - Make a direct difference.
Ultimately, this means by the end of this week we could be sending 10 bags to Dave, plus any others people might want to add to the cause.
(Note, if it turns out you pulled a swifty and the bag was never purchased or never sent to Dave, I reserve the right to name and shame you on AFF and I will petition admin to have you suspended for a week. This is a charitable cause. Get around it or don't. But absolutely do not pretend to be a part of it.)
And one final thing: I hereby propose the formation of the Australian Frequent Flyer Foundation, for just such causes. Let's discuss, in an appropriate thread, with appropriate approval, after this week is done and dusted and some cold, homeless folk are sleeping a little warmer thanks to the generosity of the (soon to be) AFFF.
