To those who might be interested in how this cause is going - Dave recently got written up by News Corp in an article here that was published in News' far North Queensland areas.
Dave's now raised more then 1.8 million in points, and wanted to pass on his appreciation to the 10 bags that were generously donated via this forum!

So that equates to about 150 bags, 150 people possibly sleeping a bit easier tonight? What a difference this guy is making, especially with the winter cold hitting already.

The great Australian who started this cause, Dave Drury, messaged me last night to say the bag is on special in the QF store for a little under 14k points.

You've beaten me to it Danger! But yes, you are very correct!

Sleeping bags that are gifted to the homeless are now 40% off at the Qantas Points Store this month only. https://www.qantasstore.com.au/p/Deploy-1300-Sleeping-Bag/151267.
Now would be a great time to make a direct difference - more information is available on the Facebook page.

One very generous member of the AFF Forum has donated 6 sleeping bags - as you know, Dave sends his huge appreciate for your support.

The Qantas Store currently has a 25% off promo until 17 May. The code is CLICKFRENZY and reduces both the points cost and the cash cost if you do a bit of both so it's about 10k and $40 for a sleeping bag for the homeless, delivered.

The outstanding Australian behind this initiative, Dave Drury, has alerted me that the sleeping bags in question are 50% off on the Qantas Store through what appears to be the end of June.

It's the start of winter and Dave's stocks are as dry as a Doha lounge during Ramadan so this is an excellent opportunity.

As a bit of an incentive, for each person that donates a bag, I will match it and donate one too, up to a maximum of five bags. It needs to be done by 12am CAT (because Adelaide and Darwin folks never get an love in this regard (and others, presumably, but that's another thread)) this Friday 8 June and you will need to provide proof that you made the purchase directly to a moderator (probably @Admin, but certainly not to me) but I haven't had a chance to run it passed the powers yet. Once your purchase has been verified I'll buy one to match.

A single bag is just 11630 points and $0, or 5k points and $33.61 and every other possible permutation you can think of.

Points for Purpose - Make a direct difference.

Ultimately, this means by the end of this week we could be sending 10 bags to Dave, plus any others people might want to add to the cause.

(Note, if it turns out you pulled a swifty and the bag was never purchased or never sent to Dave, I reserve the right to name and shame you on AFF and I will petition admin to have you suspended for a week. This is a charitable cause. Get around it or don't. But absolutely do not pretend to be a part of it.)

And one final thing: I hereby propose the formation of the Australian Frequent Flyer Foundation, for just such causes. Let's discuss, in an appropriate thread, with appropriate approval, after this week is done and dusted and some cold, homeless folk are sleeping a little warmer thanks to the generosity of the (soon to be) AFFF.

Dont know if my contribution qualifies for your generous offer. I didn't have enough QF points (didn't realise QF mall was on sale) but Snowy had a half price sale on the same bag QF sells (Caribee Deploy 1300, $59 per bag) so I bought 2 and they are being mailed tomorrow.

Here's the addressed box with AFF screen of this thread as proof and can post mail receipt tomorrow if these do qualify.

Great initiative! Happy to help - you can email proof of purchase to me at [email protected] and I'll advise Danger.

Okay. Just because you're such a kind and thoughtful person, I'll pay that. So that's two of the five spoken for. Any takers for the last three?

Okay. There wasn't much interest unfortunately so we only got two bags and I've thrown in another making three bags in total.

I've just emailed @Admin the receipt for proof.

Just confirming that I have received the QF Store receipt that Danger has purchased 3 sleeping bags (shipped them to Points for Purpose). Thanks to all that participated.

I’m now ashamed to admit say that I’ve actually used some of my points at the Qantas Store. So one more sleeping bag coming the way to an unfortunate homeless person courtesy of Dave’s cause. By far the Best spend of points in the Qantas Store!

I'm waiting for confirmation the bags have arrived at P4P but I did send them.

I've been at home, wearing thermal top and ugg slippers and cold. Can't imagine having to sleep outdoors without a sleeping bag.

Confirming that Gold Member has sent me details of this transaction.

Just saw this thread today- so have put in an order for 3 bags.

I'm only posting as it might inspire some others to donate too!
