I have signed up for the QF status challenge and I also have QR Platinum status, is there a way I can use the free seat selection with my QR status but credit the flight to QF for the status challenge? I added the QF FF number on the booking and not surprisingly the system doesn't recognise that I hold QR status and wants to charge me for seat selection.

One thing you might want to do is to try with both the metal carrier app, and the codeshare carrier app. I vagely remember having better seat selection success in some cases with one or the other. Now, this was a while ago, and with another OW carriers.

Also, don't forget that at T-80 several seats will open up. Set your alarm and log on to change your seats.

As a QR Platinum which appears to be OneWorld Emerald, you'll have access to a better lounge than a QFF on a Status Challenge.

So use QR Plat to select your seat and enter the best lounge at the airport.

Then change your Airline FF membership to Qantas.

The OP wants to change from QR to QF.
The way I read the opening post was that the OP has already added his/her QFF number to the booking which is why the better seating cannot be gained. First step here is to get the QFF out of the booking then get the QR number into the booking sellect better seating and then switch back to QF for credting purposes. The Finnair web site should be able to solve the first step.

It has been a busy day so I haven't got around to it yet, will report back on the weekend. :)

About the lounge, this is for a trans tasman flight and I doubt the F lounge will be open anytime soon, so it probably makes no difference for lounge whether I put QR Platinum or QF Gold challenge.

I managed to change the FF number using rj, I tried using Finnair but it gives me an error message and won't let me amend the FF number.

Now I have booked myself into row 4, am I safe to change my FF number back to QF? It's going from WLG-MEL and there's only 1 lounge in WLG, do I have access to it as a QF status challenge member or do I have to keep my QR number on the booking until after I entered the lounge?

I tried this again for a rewards booking and it seems to have stuffed up the ticket, now both my QF and QR FF number appears on my ticket and when I try to change back to my QF number via Finn Air or RJ, it says there is a duplicate frequent flyer number and won't process.

Do I need to ask the staff at the lounge to change it back for me? I am a Qantas point club member so I do get SC for reward bookings on QF flights.

You can try changing it using the self-service kiosks at bag drop or right outside the lounge - if no luck go to lounge desk.
