Use of OOL by NSW residents to access NNSW

3 Delis in Launceston have gone to the wall since my arrival. All now stripped of fittings. They are not coming back.Plus at least 3 restaurants I used to go to,the barber I always went to here. And there will be a lot more.

Was it not the expectation there would be a collective hair cut?

I can see the frustration of the federal government with the closure. People losing their businesses moves them to Jobkeeper which is a massive and long lasting cost to them.

I don’t see why a solution cant be worked out. Run a shuttle bus from Kingscliff through Tweed Heads to the terminal. Pax for NSW are separated after bag collection/arrival and escorted to the shuttle. Departing pax are escorted to the terminal directly from the bus. Security on the landside terminal doors to stop people wandering off unless QLD residents or have had their papers stamped by the “immigration” desk.

Rental cars etc for NSW are processed in the OOL terminal and collected at a car park somewhere on the shuttle route in NSW and vice versa.

Not saying that all of the above isn’t overkill - but the above solution would work.
With regards to the legal framework for airports an example is that liquor licenses are issued for airport bars and lounges by the state authorities in the domestic terminals.

So it's a bit late, but they've changed the law to allow exactly this:

arrives by air to an airport in Queensland and:
  1. transfers directly to another flight to leave Queensland; or
  2. arrives by air to the Brisbane Airport or Gold Coast Airport and transfers directly to a form of vehicle to immediately leave Queensland without exiting from that vehicle; or

They should have done this sooner - won't get much use with the border opening in a week.

Has the above arrangement been suggested on this thread?

As a Queenslander I am bemused by the heat Qld is receiving (with a lot of pressure from the Federal Government as well as assorted ministers within and outside Qld to "open up") yet all the other States with closed borders vis WA, SA, NT, Tasmania appear to be receiving no flak whatsoever. Does all of NSW and Victoria only come to Qld for a winter holiday?

Perhaps because Qld is the only state in that group that is in a populous region of the country, and to which lots of people would like to travel. WA, SA, NT and Tasmania are probably places that most Australians won't ever visit in their lives!

Some mayors on the NSW coast are now, probably tongue in cheek, asking for Queenslanders to be banned from entering NSW.
And with the case in Rockhampton and now 2 cases in Blackwater with one death and no explanation of how it was caught it might now be safer in NSW than QLD.

Well, if the Mexicans and co who can't visit other places redirect their tourism dollars to the NSW north coast, then I'd expect they'd do quite well out of it. One would then have to wonder who, if anyone, will be going to Qld.

O\Personally, as a Queenslander, as is Gecko24 apparently, it is manna from heaven that we are spared southerners for a few months, Victorians possibly indefinitely. It has been wonderful to live again the days before the southerners invaded the coasts, both south and north of Brisbane.

Don't southerners have have homes to which to go, and in which to shiver?
