US Dividend Miles - post your SUCCESSFUL award bookings here.

(and yes, my eyes are peeled for availability on united transpac!!)

I'm with you there! I know a lot of people have this pathological fear of flying UA and prefer to go via ICN etc. but having just flown my first 3 sectors in OZ J I have to say it's not something I'm in a hurry to repeat! I also flew SQ and CX J on my trip and OZ absolutely does not belong in this company as an alleged '5 star airline'.

I'm inclined to agree. I've only been on OZ business for short intra-Asia flights and they were ok... nothing remarkable and SQ beats them hands-down.

their first class however is excellent, I'd say on par with SQ (slight edge to OZ on their suites). OZ's intra-Asia first narrowly beats SQ first on the similar sectors (although SQ has the advantage of a lot more intra-Asia routes offering F).

I flew ICN-HNL and HNL-ICN-HKG. My beef is not with the hard product...I've no issues with the sloped seats on the A330 and knew what to expect. For me the surprising negatives were crew, catering, lounges and while it doesn't affect me a very, very surprising slackness when it comes to things like securing the cabin and passengers for take off / landing. ICN airport on the other hand is probably the most efficient I've ever been to.

Couldn't help myself but to jump on the Guam bandwagon to say goodbye to USDM.

Put the following ticket on hold last night for Myself and Mrs F for mid Jan.

TG476 SYD-BKK F
TG401 BKK-SIN J
Overnight in SIN ~15Hours

SQ616 SIN-KIX J
Overnight in KIX ~23Hours

UA178 KIX-GUM J
2 Nights/3 Days in Guam

UA179 GUM-HKG Y
Overnight in HKG ~22Hours

TG607 HKG-BKK F
Overnight in BKK ~20Hours

40k Points & $215 Taxes PP.

Usually I can get the Thai PNR once I put it on hold but agent said she didn't have it yet.... I like to look up the bookings on thai/other website to confirm but managed to look them up on US and UA websites.... so will call back tonight to ticket...

Now I'm tossing up between catching a 6AM flight MEL-SYD to catch that SYD-BKK flight or catch a flight the night before and stay in an airport hotel at SYD....

Anyone got any recommendations for where to stay/what to do in Guam? :)

Nice booking!

I wouldn't risk flying MEL-SYD that morning to make the TG flight - I'd definitely go up the night before (I would risk it if taking the afternoon TG flight which I have done myself).

That UA GUM-HKG flight is going to be hell - 5 hours in an old 737 in Y!!!

Thanks. Yeah I think I'm going to go up to SYD the night before.... I've also done the afternoon TG flight and flown up (MEL-SYD) in the morning before...

Yes that UA flight is going to be hell... There was J available if I went GUM-TPE (overnight in TPE) TPE-HKG-BKK but Mrs wants to go shopping in HKG so we're taking the 5 hours of hell....

Does anyone know if they will let me purchase the premium (ie exit row type) seating on the UA Y flight?

oh.. :) well securing the cabin doesn't necessarily worry me as long as the pax between me and the aisle are secure :) But agree the lounge in ICN is pretty mediocre (looks nice but sparse on the amenities).

I disagree with ICN airport - I hear it's ok for an OZ-OZ connection - but coming from another terminal to get to an OZ departure I have always found the security lines to be very long... up to 30 minutes and no priority lane.

this seems to be a new thing. We made a booking a couple weeks ago for TG and also no PNR available. We called TG.

Maybe something to do with change of reservation system.... So you didn't get your TG PNR even after ticketing?

nope. we were told it could take '24 hours to generate'. of course USDM ticketed instantly and we were able to call TG straight away without any problems.

lol. I spend my time trying to get as FEW segments as humanly possible :) (and yes, my eyes are peeled for availability on united transpac!!)
Good luck with finding anything other than Y TPAC on UA especially with the change to 777s.

with the 747 it often opened up in the week or so before departure. last time I checked for a flight it was showing F9A9 and a couple of awards opened up. so based on a 777 having 8 rather than 12 F seats I'd still be hoping for F5A5 and maybe one award :)

There isn't a saver F or J award on either UA870 or UA840 on the 777 up to the end of October next year, and only a limited number of saver Y awards. I used to see a reasonable number on the 747 especially at the limit. There are heaps of standard awards on both flights, but that's no good for DM.

It will be interesting to see a week or so before departure (right up until day before departure) what availability shows. It's a $150 change fee but can shave up to 15 hours off the total travel time to the USA.

You two are not returning home ?

Last flight HKG-BKK ?

Going home via Christmas Islands ?

There is no catering on that route, I'm afraid.

US no longer provides TG reference numbers anymore. Don't know why, they just don't anymore.

Fortunately you can call Thai to get it easily (which you'll have to do to select seats, and check e-ticket).

You can also just email them. I sent one about 11PM last night to [email protected] and by 9:30 this morning I had a reply giving me my booking number and asking if I wanted to give seat and meal preferences.
