> there are lots of other options out of Bangkok, youre not limited to TG.

Please explain ;-)

I'm not sure if you are serious with the wink there, but do you really need an explanation that TG is not the only airline flying to Bangkok?

Is it difficult to obtain 2 X J seats on NZ using US miles? i.e. AKL-LAX or LAX-LHR or AKL-HKG

AKL-LAX and AKL-HKG next to impossible. LAX-LHR is more possible....

this is based on experiences I have seen from others online and from searches I've done myself.

I managed a MEL-AKL-LAX once but I now consider myself quite lucky!

I'm new to the US Dividend Miles redemption, but so far l've heard many people say that - Air NZ, J, AKL-LAX is very hard to get.

I have never seen a J seat AKL-HKG & no AKL-LAX recently either. There used to be so so availability close to departure but I think NZ have changed the way the process upgrade requests for their own elites - I think it may have had an impact.

ok so virtually a no chance for J award for NZ then.. Maybe could try LAX-LHR vv

After reading the member guide - date changes cant be made after the trip has commenced. Has anyone been able to extend their trip??

Do NZ still have the milk run flight to the US via RAR & PPT?

Ok... So I just got off the phone with the call center and have the following on hold. SYD - BKK - JNB (J), JNB - CAI - LHR - LAX (J), LAX - SYD (J). Quoted 110,000 miles per person, $465~tax and $50pp booking fee. Seems a bit low, but no questions asked about the round the world booking, but I thought the miles would be 120,000 for J. Should I endeavour to correct this prior to booking? Has anyone had trips cancelled on here that were priced incorrectly?
Ok so just to confirm, I just locked away this booking. No questions about the routing or cost when I confirmed. Total price worked out to be about $2550 per person. Pretty good for round the world business class travel. Thank you again for everyone who provided input into suggested itinerary's.

I've been trawling through this thread with interest, Before I join yet another FF program though, I would really appreciate any thoughts on whether this might work for us...

Our 2013 OS family trip in June / July involves

  • Mrs G, toddler (ie child) G and baby G travel from Sydney to Glasgow to visit Grandma mid June.
  • GCC travels Sydney - Vancouver for meetings July 4 - 13, then Vancouver - Glasgow
  • Family is reunited in Glasgow and we all travel to Gatwick to visit family in England
  • We all travel from Gatwick home to Sydney, possibly with stop somewhere in Asia for resort R&R.

We have flexibility with all travel dates except that I have to be in Whistler on 4 July, and cant really leave Vancouver (actually am in Victoria) until 13 July. I could also skip Glasgow and meet the family in England. On the way to Canada I could live with a 1 or 2 night stopover in HNL. :) My itinerary could begin in Vancouver as my "normal" airfare to Canada would be paid for by work.

We aim to travel J wherever possible, our normal M.O. for family travel has been to to fly QF / OW on Y+ sale booking and then use points to upgrade.

From reading here it looks like for about the same cost as Y tickets we could buy points, and then redeem for J travel. The separate itineraries might be an advantage rather than a problem. We also currently have 150,000 + points in our Amex premium MR (ie plat charge) account which maybe we could use for US dividend miles?

I suspect the biggest problem would have to be availability, given we are traveling in peak season for both UK and USA. The other downside is obviously no contribution to QFF status, but we would also be hanging on to our QFF points.

Its just via RAR on a 763 I think. that one does open up for awards more often, but product is rubbish compared to 777 or 747

Eek I better not start up an ANZ version of the QF3/4 767 thread.

What was the issue with infants or children on TG F or J that Shanye2233 had a drama with?

ahh.. this thread is so confusing! How does the system work?

I'm heading to US in Sept/Oct next year for a Honeymoon. Departing from melb, and we will be seeing LA, LV, NY, hawaii, not in any particular order (still working out itinerary). Is there anyway this Dividend miles could help out in getting a J or F for relatively cheap?

Obviously it's a bit late to sign up now and get the 100% bonus (due to the new member waiting period?) but i'm sure it will pop around again..

with US airways you can have one stopover in addition to your final destination. The best thing for you to do is consider how this would work for your travels (the answer is not really that well considering you want to do Hawaii).

You could easily do Australia to Los Angeles (stopover and take a side trip to Las Vegas), then continue on to new York. But that leaves Hawaii out.

I'd probably do LA return with stopover on return at Hawaii if possible, still not 100% sure on my journey from LA to NY (i.e. any other cities).

So how does the US Divdend Miles work in this case? Trying an award flight or points flight on the US Airways website comes up with popup saying its not available from the airport selected (i.e. Melb).

you have to call them to book. use united.com to check availability, or awardtravelr.com. but availability is a little screwy at the moment.
