Thanks Mel-Traveller & YOYH!

Good thing i checked with AFFers's before taking a risk. Oh well, hopefully this offer will come round again next year & i'll be all set to pounce!

For those that have bought miles, enjoy your J/F flights!, I'll have to make do with whats left of my DONE5 RTW trip on oneworld for now.

i would keep my eye open even before next year! Past experience has shown these offers pretty much back-2-back - except for this current round which came after a 2 week 'break'.

ALthough there is some talk this might be a final chance... especially now that US seems to be back in profit. We'll see!

Not that it matters in this instance, but you do actually have to wait till the 13th day before you can purchase miles. The days are measured from Eastern US time though, so if you sign up before midnight there, that will count as one day.

Just thought I'd add this if anyone else is reading...

Just snuck one in before this round finished.

MEL-BKK TG J
BKK-FRA TG F
FRA-HEL LH J
Open jaw
ZRH-BKK TG F
BKK-MEL TG J

Two people. 150,000 points and AUD2350 (inc taxes) each. If the AUD hadn't fallen last week by three cents it would have been better by about AUD70.

Here's hoping for another round of bonus points!

Pretty cool you snuck in there sr81

I've also managed to book a couple:

SYD-BKK TG F
BKK-FRA LH F
FRA-CDG LH C (open jaw)
FCO-BKK-SYD TG F

and

SYD-BKK TG F
BKK-IST TK C (open jaw)
FCO-BKK-SYD TG F

Not yet prepared to do something wild but these worked and both costed 150K points and around $200 in taxes :) :)

I see you are on TK in C - will this be on the new 773?

Love it when the taxes and booking fee come to about $200 - makes the YQ surcharge on a certain antipodean carrier seem like a criminal rip off.

Unfortunately it's going to be a 343.

Those taxes are sweet, $200 for like a 4 or 5 sectors is pretty neat and that includes the US reservation charge too!

Thanks sr81 for the helpful tips :p

Surprisingly US charged only 125K for this routing. It should have been 150K AUS-EUR in F. So now I have a spare 26K which I'll save until the next promo ;)

Some reports on FT talk of bookings being stopped or cancelled because of incorrect milage.

Given you expected to pay 150k I would be calling back and getting them to charge the correct milage. Then everything is above board.

Sorry to the fun police.

Yeah I will call back later tonight.

I know some agents are pretty ordinary but in my case, three different agents advised 125k was the correct mileage

Given it's almost tonight here, it's definitely "later tonight for you" :p How did you go?

I'm a first time user and my wife and I have got our 100,000 miles on the 50+50 offer. As I said I'm a first time user and not TOO confident so I'm thinking of buying another 50,000 miles now for normal price. I need 150k for round trip first class Perth to London probably with Thai in March/April 2011.

So I'm thinking that the AU$3000+ is still quite cheap. What's the group view?

Thanks Paul

Absolutely - it's still an unbeatable deal. I think I'm right in thinking that Royal Brunei is still more expensive for pure business class ex Perth?

BI was about $4,300 for my in-laws in August/September this year.

Don't forget that Thai don't offer First out of PER so only the long haul would be in F. The difference between first and business is only $800 per person so I would be looking for a little extra spend. At $3000 each I think that you really can't go wrong.

You can fly into pretty much any EU city with this, you just pay extra taxes. Fly TG to FRA then just connect to the city you want. EG. PER-BKK-FRA-HEL/EDI/MAD?etc....

I haven't called yet Flashy but I'm not in a rush to call given the bookings are like reallllyyy late in 2011.

Also who's generally better TG F vs LH F?

I'm assuming a pax flying LH F can still access the nice TG F Lounge and Royal SPA???

TG v LH F.... both got pros/cons but I think I would rate TG just slightly higher (unless LH aricraft is 333).

Only outbound TG F pax will get Royal Orchid First Lounge. Sames deal with LX in ZRH etc...

BTW, instead of spending 150K miles to Europe return, add a return segment to the USA and it becomes 140K miles. That's if you can find LH/LX availaibility in F transatlantic nowadays :(

Lounge yes, but not the SPA at BKK.

Regarding LH F on the 747, 2x2 seating is nice though if travelling as a couple, but not so for solo traveller. It also has a more business class feel to me.

Alas on 29 Nov this little trick was stopped by USAirways. You now cannot travel to EU via North America or North America via EU.

As for TG F vs LH F. If departing BKK take TG and if departing FRA take LH. The first terminal in FRA is something else.

You will not be able to access the SPA on LH F.

I think TG is better just because of the seats. Heaps of leg room and if in A or K you get loads of personal space. LH F is 2 x 2 on the upper deck and feels like old school J class.
