US Dividend Miles Buy/Gift Miles 100% bonus - Cheap way for F/J *A Awards

If you bought the miles with a credit card, could you not do a "chargeback" if US airways went belly up and you lost your miles?

How long can one delay a request for chargeback following the purchase?

Also, I think the rationale for the chargeback wouldn't be trivial to back up.

AeroPlan site isn't working. I have 0 miles and 5 active ready accounts . I need 480k for J to Europe . Should I buy 100k each flying passenger (4) and then share/gift the remaining 80k amongst us from the dummy account or wait for GS or next promotion?

With the tax recovery charge of 7.5% is that just added on to the points when you purchase? EG for 50k, US$1,375 + US$103.13?

Yes.

As you've done, you'll need to calculate the full cost yourself, although you get a confirmation of the amount charged before and after you purchase.

What do you mean by a dummy account? Be aware that US airways audits accounts, and if they suspect there is any irregularity then they may close all the accounts affected - so that would be all five.

If you have a genuine 5th person that is fine. Be aware that to transfer miles it is 1c per mile plus 7.5% tax plus a $30 fee.

They can monitor that by the credit card used.

When I say dummy I mean I opened up an account or my sister did and she has no intension to fly

that should be fine.

The promotions have varied, the one a couple back was buy 50K and get a 75% bonus only.

I would buy them now and transfer them over while you can still get 100%.

The other issue is that all advice has suggested you go for two seats in First and 2 in business. I would be planning for that to be on the safe side. Otherwise you may end up having to buy the additional miles for First class at full price if there is no promotion on at the time you want to book your tickets.

If you are in a position to book the tickets now, you could ring to make the reservation, put them o hold and then buy the miles.

Guys and girls I worked put the prices it's gping to costs me for 4 J it's too much for me. So I got thinking how to save money. If I fly before my daughters second birthday I believe this is what happens but I'm probably wrong.

I call reserve one adult seat and one child seat put it on hold . Buy the miles. Wait and see if more seats award seats open up . Then I buy another 1 adult seat and then pay 10% off the fare for a lap seat? Is that right. Also how much is 10% of a fare I'm paying with miies.

Anyway I checked the dates in October her birthday is in November. I found availability on aeroplan flying SYD-CDG(stop over)-MILAN . Returning MILAN-SYD . So this is a flight with one stop over that allowed per flight award from the rules .

If I don't have to pay for the youngest one it's a great savings.
I don't know it's 4.30am I'm just tired I can't stop now

The routing of SYD-xx_-CDG//MXP-xx_-SYD is valid. Best chance to secure four seats would all J class on TG via BKK. I'd personally put on hold 2 tickets, once that is done, see if you can immediately put on hold another 2 tickets. If all is good, buy the points 50K ($1375) + 50K bonus + a regular 20K ($550) and all is set. Close to $9K for 4 tix in J class - super deal.

Anyway, big thumbs up to US for offering another round of 100% promo's ;)

Can I buy 50k plus bonus 50k = 100k in account A
Then gift from account A 50k plus bonus 50k into account b = 100k

Leaving 50k in account A and now 100k in account B ?

Please say yes .

No you can't

Sorry i edited this, my mistake.

The T&C states a maximum of 50k bonus miles per member is allowed . Account A received there bonus 50k and now gifting 50k to account B to receive their 50k maximum bonus as stated .

Sounds right

Shayne, keep it simple mate. I know you are trying to get the best value out of this but the easiest and most pain-less way will be this:-

1. Work out your desired dates of travel (and be flexible)
2. Check award availability by using Aeroplan or ANA (again be flexible).
3. Ring up US Airways to place all seats on a 72 hour hold
4. Once your happy with (3) buy your points*.
5. Ring up US Airways within the prescribed hold time with the confirmation number and complete transaction.

*The easiest way to buy enough points will be this:-

Person A buys 50K and receives 50K bonus
Person B buys 50K and receives 50K bonus
Person C buys 50K and receives 50K bonus
Person D buys 50K and receives 50K bonus

Everyone is still short 20K, so each person can just buy it at full price (cost a little more, but its good enough to get you to Europe in J for cheap).##

##The Terms and Conditions aren't clear ... as it says only Buy Bonus is up to a max. of 50K,(I read this as buying it for oneself) so assuming Person E can gift (ie buy 10K for you and receive the 10K bonus) to A,B,C,D then this could save you some money, but then again it may not work, so you need to resort to buying the 20K balance at full cost.

You can Buy, Share or Gift miles, and for your example Person A is really sharing 'their' miles to Person B. And sharing miles does not enjoy the bonus benefits, in this round of promotions anyway.

Shayne, others can correct me if I am wrong but your idea of three tickets and an infant ticket could work. I think you still have to pay 10% of the cheapest fare in the same class as your other tickets, this is not miles but cash only.

Your other option is to buy the 4 lots of 50000 + 50000 and wait for the next promo, this would save you approx $1000 but no guarantee when/if another promo is forthcoming.

I also think you would be better off with your stopover in Bangkok. You can always get cheapy intra Europe fares. Your cash will also go a lot further in Bangkok.

To everyone, can't believe how the dollar has lost 8 cents this week!

Nice to wake up to a new promotion amongst all the other cough going on in the world!

Now will start looking again for dates then ring US Airways and lock it in eddie.

Have 2 accounts with 100k each but want 150k each... do you guys think it's best to buy 50k+50k bonus in my account then combine mine and my partners for the booking? Totalling 300k. Thoughts?

The issue here is the transfer fee at 1 cent per mile.

If you buy 50k for your account you will get 100k total. This will cost USD1478 then add a transfer fee of USD500 and you are looking at USD2000ish.

If you buy 30K for each account you will get 60k in total (30k bonus) for USD953 per person.

I think you work out a bit better just buying directly for each member and you have 10k left over for next time as a kicker.

Ahhh yes the transfer fee throws a spanner into the works!

At least I've got a month to think about it... Not really keen on spending cash if not needed in this climate!. Although by then the USD/AUD will be .80c :|

I have just purchased my first ever Dividend Miles today. 1478USD for 100K miles. I have held back from buying on my wife's account as we are still not sure if we are travelling to Europe yet, and I do have 75K miles on BMI account (enough for J M+C Award).

Ironically, even though I started this thread, it actually took me this long to make a purchase, partly because I need to burn other miles that I have already in my account.

The AUD is taking a battering the last few days. Now it is 1 AUD:1 USD. I suggest you jump on the opportunity now than later! In fact, I was so rushed, I ended up using my Amex Plat Edge CC to make purchase, when I have my 28 degrees MasterCard sitting in my wallet and save myself international transaction fees! Doh!

Good work on the buy. Even at parity it is still a great deal.

This market move is based on nothing more than panic. Just ride it out and before Sept starts we should be back above parity. This is not GFC 2 nor a double dip recession. Just automated trade engines hitting sell triggers and away we go.
