For anyone out there like me that has 2 accounts open, but no miles in either and wants to try and take advantage of this share deal, I've been crunching numbers.
I've been trying to find about the sweet spot where, if you buy a small number of miles (at full price) and share back and forth till each account has 50K bonus for the least amount of money. Obviously anything where the total is less than $17.50 per 1,000 miles (being the 100% buy bonus price) is a good deal. The killer with doing these small transfers is that you are charged a $30 'transfer fee' each time, so the trick is to do as few transfers as possible.
I've calculated various combos of small buy purchases to start off with (everything from 2,000 to 25,000 miles) and believe the sweet spot is to buy 10,000 miles at full price in one account, then share back and forth until each account has 50k bonus. Doing is this way Account 1 ends up with 60K miles and Account 2 50K miles and the total miles are $13.36 per 1,000 miles.
PM me if you want the exact share calculations.
I assume you can share back and forth between 2 accounts until you hit your 50K shared each?
Hi

I have been doing some similar calculations but using some "extra" accounts to increase the total number of bonus miles thatcan be gained.
If you had two extra accounts (perhaps parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews etc might like to join DM) you can do the sharing in those accounts until you have 100K in total and then share 50k to each of your accounts.
Just as an example based on two accounts A and B, set up two more accounts C and D, wait 12 days and then do the following:
A buys 5K - result A5, B0, C0, D0
A shares 5K with C - result A0, B0, C10, D0
C shares 10K with D - result A0, B0, C0, D20
D shares 20K with C - result A0, B0, C40, D0
C shares 40K with D - result A0, B0, C0, D80
D shares 25K with C - result A0, B0, C50, D55
D shares 50K with A - result A100, B0, C50, D5
C shares 50K with B - result A100, B100, C0, D5
Like you I am assuming that you can share back and forth between accounts until each account receives the 50K share limit (excluding bonus).
A and B end up with 100K each. D is left with 5K but that could be kept for the next sharing promo. Even ignoring the 5K left over in D the cost per 1,000 is only $13.04 (if I have calculated correctly!).
