My current annual business travel policy is about to expire 31st August and I'm about to retire. I can renew for 1 more year but at a cost of $1500, almost double what it was last year because we planned a couple of o/seas trips including a long one for next year. I'm having trouble finding a new policy to fit the case so any advice is appreciated.
Facts: We are both 64, will travel both in Aus and overseas, 1 big trip of 68 days to US and Europe which includes cruises. Some of the problems I'm finding are: Length of the big trip, having to nominate every country we might visit and if you don't include somewhere and decide to go later you can't add it, policy that won't be able to renew once 65, having to take out additional cruise coverage.
I purchase everything with Citi Prestige visa and am about to have a fun read of their 74 page document to see if I can get away with credit card coverage unless I can find a better alternative.

Have you had a look at the ANZ platinum visa? $79 annual fee, 80 years upper limit. Spend $250 on any travel content for cover (can be the taxes, fees and charges for an award booking), or a couple nights at a hotel. As long as you have a return ticket to Australia you can travel anywhere else (no need to notify).

You'd need to check the PDS for cruises. I think it's now 180 days per exit from Australia for cover.

No FF or CC points, but with only $250 spend, you can put the rest of your travel ion a card that does.

We are with 1Cover. We pay a bit extra because of some declared pre existing medical issues, yes you pay a bit extra if cruising or going to the US but it suits our needs. Cover is for 90 days per trip.

Thanks for the info but no time to get a new credit card however I checked the policy on my Citi Platinum visa (used for booking the trip) and it seems to have really good cover through Alliance.

Have a look at 1cover - 2 adults, worldwide for up to 90 days per trip, cruises included $794 .

Thanks for the information on 1cover. They appear to have a good policy at a reasonable price however I did read the 74 pages of the free policy for my Citi Prestige Visa and it appears to be as good as any of the paid ones. I'll need to check out about cruises as that is not specifically mentioned but nor is it specifically excluded. It also doesn't mention age and cover is for trips of up to 6 months so I'll think it might be a winner unless anyone has had a bad experience.

Be careful with cc travel insurance. There are plenty of warnings about the cover provided through some cards. Not sure about Citi, but other AFF members may know more.

There are plenty of warnings about activating cover, and reading the PDS to make sure you are covered for the activities you want to do (cruising, extreme sports, longer than 6 months away, etc). And likewise with pre-existing conditions, you need to read both paid and CC policies carefully.

IIRC the extensive thread elsewhere on AFF pretty much said CC cover was at least equal, if not better, than the paid counterpart.

Ok allclear just did a quote for annual
$3340 for both of us
Need to check if cruising is included. Husband will ring them
That's some serious $$$.
I just paid 1Cover a fraction under $600 for an annual. Doesn't cover US or cruising and won't cover anything related to my disclosed cancer situation. Fine by me. When I go on a cruise next year I can always ring and pay a bit extra or given its only on Australian waters take my chances.

I read recently that a cruise ship in Australian waters is not covered it all by Australian health insurance.

Yes, but a helicopter evacuation, and pretty much anything on the ship is expensive. It’s a risk that one takes if you choose the no cruise option cover.

The on ship care will not be covered most likely

If you get evacuated to on-shore, then the costs on shore would be.

With two medical "variations" , our policy last year was about $2k iirc.
There were cheaper policies but the broad form wording ( allianz) won me.
It expires in oct and with no firm plans next year(yet) , we will renew when we need it
