I am hoping someone can recommend a quick safe website to get a Vietnam e visa for my daughter flying within 24 hours from Australia to Vietnam. She has only just realised that her Melb - Paris flight with Vietnam Airlines will involve arriving at Ho Chi Min VN 780 transferring to a domestic flight VN 6018 to Hanoi then onwards to Paris on VN 19. Please no judgements, her friend booked the ticket.

Don't want to mention this but you should know...e Visa is processed within 3 business days

yes, we are in a bit of a pickle since webjet booked the ticket but didn’t advise them that they would need a visa to transit. We only realised it when we were checking which terminal she was entering from Australia and leaving for the flight to Hanoi and then onto Paris.

Sorry to say, but I applied a couple of weeks back (via the official government website) and it definitely took more than 24hrs. I'm thinking 2 days. Your daughter might need to change flights. :(

Thanks Briar Flyer , I think you are right.

Passengers, and only passengers, are always responsible for ensuring they have the correct visa/visa wavier. Some countries require a visa even if an airside transit, depending on passport held.
The airline & travel agent have no idea of the passport/passports and visa/visas a passenger may have, or will later apply for.

But if your international flight has a transfer or terminals requiring you to enter the county, or a domestic connection nestled in, the travel agent should perhaps mention that?

Yes of course it is the responsibility of the passenger to check and comply, but how many itineraries require you to enter the country? USA, Tokyo (maybe), Vietnam in selected itineraries.

I agree that passengers need to take responsibility for Visa‘s etc. I have attached what they were sent by Webjet and i think that it is difficult to decipher that the stop over in Ho Chi Minh was in fact a change from international to domestic terminals. We have checked all documentation from Webjet and nowhere does it mention needing a visa. I have flown a bit and I think that in this instance it is not really clear of what was actually happening with flights.

They may well be ok.
The ticket shows MEL-HAN, with a stop in SGN.
They may just transit in SGN and not have to clear customs there.
There’s nothing in the ticket shown about a domestic flight, so fingers crossed.
Just checked Vietnam website; there is a change to a domestic flight at Sgn. To OP, what happened in the end? did you daughter change flights or did she get her e Visa on time?

An update. They arrived at Ho Chi Minh and were offered to pay $200 for a ViSA, they also discovered that their onward flight had been changed. Ho Chi Minh to Hanoi flight was VN 6018 departing at 18.15 was changed to flight VN 6014 departing at 17.00 making it impossible for anyone to collect their luggage and recheck on the flight to Hanoi. There is a small group of travellers now negotiating with Vietnam airlines to get them on the flight tomorrow to Paris leaving Ho Chi Minh VN11.

How on earth can WebJet sell these tickets without notifying the passengers that they need to clear immigration in SGN?
On the basis of the partial itinerary posted, there’s no indication that the passengers are doing anything other than transiting.

Yeah. One of those things. I knew they were domestic connectors, but only because I’d read it.

Same happened in china pre covid with quite a few international flights making a ‘technical stop’ en route to shanghai or beijing… except the technical stop was an *actual* stop, which then made otherwise valid plans to use transit without visa all of a sudden ‘invalid’. No warning or mention of this by the airline themselves :(

I agree, here is what they received. The middle flight is not identified as a domestic flight. It was meant to be leaving at 18.30 and in fact left at 17.00, making it impossible for anyone to connect with it. If I had not been checking which terminal the flights were leaving from we wouldn’t have noticed it.
