Hi all,

I've searched without success so apologies if this has been covered before....

Next month I'm planning to fly UYQ-ASP-MEL and would like to u/g the ASP-MEL leg using points.

Having checked award availability, I know J award seats are available on this leg. My question is, will I be able to 'request' the upgrade given the UYQ-ASP leg is clearly non-upgradeable?

Booking the legs separately to get round this potential issue adds $100 onto the total ticket cost. Moreover, I am reluctant to pay an additional $110 for an upgradeable fare (from Red e-deal to Super Saver), unless I can be certain that I will actually be able to upgrade the relevant leg!

I am a QP member so can upgrade in advance and ODU in the ASP QP prior to departure if necessary.

Thanks in advance and hope this makes sense,

Rich

Just remember that Qantas Club membership has no status and could be considered (from a status aspect) as being the same as Frequent Flyer Bronze. You can request an upgrade on your flight in advance (I think up to 90 days prior to the flight) but you can't "upgrade in advance" as you indicate. Even if you purchase an upgradeable ticket anyone with silver, gold or platinum status will jump the upgrade list before you so your chances are slim for an domestic upgrade.

If your searches indicate that J awards are available on the flight you want, then I would suggest using your points for that J ticket and don't rely on getting a requested upgrade or ODU upgrade from the lounge.

Of course dubno can upgrade in advance; it's a domestic flight!

All that's needed is:
  1. Business Award availability on the target flight &
  2. A WHY booking in "SuperSaver" of "Flexi-" class.

Upgrade requests are by segment. So it can be done with a multi segment booking and it's easy to do on-line. Upon clicking the upgrade button, the individual segments are listed; you simply select the one you want to upgrade.

If that U seat is still available on ASP-MEL when the request is made, the upgrade will be granted immediately.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

See what happens when you think you know something, but then get shot down in flames. However, I am learning.

Well, I got the answer I needed so thanks both for your prompt responses!

I'll book an upgradeable fare now.

Cheers,

Dubno
