Flying NRT-SYD Sat night. Im upstairs as on work trip but my girlfriend is up the back. Tried for points upgrade got the usual 'no chance too full'. Any thoughts? We'll be checking in together,is there anything I can say or do to get the missus upgraded or is there no hope.
    appreciate any thoughts.

You can always do the right thing and let her sit up top and you slum it out down the back :? .

The only way I know of is to get on the upgrade waitlist. But that is only going to help if you have some status with QF FF program, preferably Platinum. If not, then I would be planning for one of you to be sitting down the back - which one depends on the current status of the relationship and how you want that status to continue after the trip  .

I learned many years ago that it is to my advantage to ensure Mrs NM gets the good seats when she flies  .

    hahaha....some excelent responses there.
NM - I'm FF gold btw.
My initial thoughts were that it would be a nice thing to swap boarding passes...but that said she is also 5 ft nothing and doesn't drink on flights so it's a bit of a waste really:)

In that case, check-in early, buy her a gift at the duty-free shop and then take her to the Qantas Club lounge. Tank her up in prep for the flight and she might not notice the difference  .

Hey, congratulations. It pays to call back. But is there a reason you did not waitlist in the first place?

I suspect the change in seat availability may have come about due to the codeshare nature of the flight. QF may have had very few seats for themselves, while JAL had the majority. They may have altered the split due to inventory management, and you end up the winner.

I believ it always helps to be on the waitlist, even if it fails there is no harm in being on it.
