I have applied for upgrades from full economy to premium economy using FF points for MEL - LAX QF093 13th January 2012, returning LAX - MEL QF094 31st January 2012.

I am a WP (I think this means Platinum FF?).

I have also applied upgrade from economy - business for the leg JFK - LAX QF108 31st January 2012.

While selecting my seats I was wondering if it would improve my chances for the upgrades if I purchased exit rows for $180 for MEL/LAX/MEL, and $80 for the JFK/LAX leg.

Any advice/help would be appreciated.

Cheers

To be honest, it's hard to see that having an exit seat pre-allocated could affect a variance to the seemingly automated points upgrade process.

IIRC if you purchase exit row and then do get an upgrade you DO NOT get your $$ back

The cost of requesting the seats is very insignificant compared to the $ value of scoring an international upgrade with points- and if you don't get the upgrade at least you have better seats!
