Upgrades (free or otherwise) on SQ

Any luck with points upgrades? Have been checking on expertflyer for several SQ flights and although there seems to be plenty of available seats there are none on I and O. What am I supposed to do with these miles?
If they are KF miles, use your krisflyer login to look for availability there. much more reliable and bookable online.

Yes, they are KF miles but krisflyer does not show any upgrade button. Have also called SQ and they have confirmed that there are no seats available for upgrades. Yet their J class is mostly half full.

To maintain your sanity do not try and reverse engineer SQ yield rules.

& that is the very way SQ & other relative luxuries (LV, Hermes, Swiss watches & Luxury Hotels etc. to name but a few) like to maintain their well respected & guarded & non 'discounted mentality" premium product.

I am a krisflyer member. I don't fly a whole lot and generally only fly from oz to europe when I do. I only ever fly economy. I decided to use some amex points to pay for my economy flight. I think it was 34k points in total. I got a notion in my head to try and upgrade to business the night before the flight. Problem was I needed to transfer points from amex to krisflyer. I was not sure how many points I needed to transfer so tested it on the singaporeairlines website. There seemed to be problems with it as I kept getting "internal error 505" when I tried to "mock" book the business class. I kept at it and eventually i got through and found out the amount of points I needed. Just to see if I had to pay for additional taxes I proceeded to "mock" finalise transaction. Next thing you know the website says additional payment is $60, but no mention of miles required. I make the payment to see what happens and low and behold my ticket is upgraded to business class! Secondly, the payment of $60 gets refunded. ..dont know why. So, on the day of the flight, I tried to check in online but it would nt allow me to. At check in counter there were issues with printing my boarding pass for the connecting flight. But I eventually got it at the connecting airport. How weird was all that? Did this happen to anyone else.?

So you upgraded from Y to J for Oz to Europe for no additional payment of points/miles or cash?
I've not heard that happen before, and it is weird.
But the website is still *problematic* nearly 2 years after its enhancement,
so I suppose anything's possible.

Yes it was very very strange. I tried to get the missus upgraded for free during the flight but they wouldn't budge with their no upgrade policy. In fairness I was being greedy at that stage!

I had the exact same thing when booking in late August, except from J to F.

I had a confirmed J saver redemption SYD-SIN-LHR (one way) and a couple of weeks after booking noticed that availability had opened up for an F saver on SQ222 and SQ306 (my existing flights). I did a "change my booking" and was quoted about a $60 change fee, and curiously, -2500 points. I clicked the last page to confirm, but the website simply dropped back to the SQ homepage with no confirmation.

I presumed that the booking hadn't been ticketed so I called SQ customer service, and I was informed 31,875 additional miles would be required to ticket the booking to which I agreed. However two days later I received a phone call letting me know that the original quote on the website would be honored. Ticket in "O" class was received later that day.

I am a nobody to *A or KF (my points all come from AMEX) so to say that I was shocked at this turn of events would be a massive understatement!!
