I'm a member of Air New Zealand Airports but my cousin isn't. I've got enough points to upgrade myself to Premium Ecomony. As much as I'd love to upgrade to more space, I can't leave my cousin in Economy.

What are the chances of both being upgraded at the time of check-in? Is it best to check-in as soon as the counters open or should we just forget about it?

We're leaving for the US on Tuesday 24 August.

If hoping for a free upgrade it is always best to plan on sitting in the cabin you paid for and taking anything else as a HUGE bonus..;)

IME NZ is pretty damn good at this revenue management thing.... My understanding is that "op-ups" are pretty unusual.... I sure as hell have never got one....and I've been Gold or Gold Elite for a few years now....

Having said that, I had good luck with standby upgrades even as a Jade level Airpoints member... especially midweek like you are flying...

Seriously - I reckon your cousin would only cheer you on if you DID get the upgrade (It comes from points YOU earned after all!)... and it is SUCH a good use of A$!!!! The very best possible use IMO....

If you broach the subject I think your cousins attitude might surprise you! If not.. then they don't deserve the worry anyway!!!:mrgreen:

Reminds me of Mrs Doubtfire's advice "hope for the best, expect the worst and take whatever comes"!

Oz :p :p
