Hi Everyone,

I JUST LOVE THIS SITE !

I hope someone can give me an opinion on somthing.

I am flying SIN BNE via QF52 on 01/09/07 in Y ( its all the company will pay for :( )

Looking at "seatcounter" there are a heap of seats in the various business classes.

What would be the chance of all these seats going before the date of flight, and thus me getting ( or not getting) an upgrade,, I am only a lowly bronze (my old job did not require travel, but now this has changed :D ) and i understand that the higher levels get first dip, but it does seem that there are a number of seats available.

As this is an overnight flight, business would be great of course !

i would appreciate others opinions on this.

thanks in advance

G'day mm472, welcome to AFF.

Expert Flyer is showing: J9 C9 D0 I0.

The Lack of D (and I) indicates that Qantas expect to sell most of the Business seats at full (J) or slightly discounted rates (C), so at this stage chances for a NB are not that good.

Keep an eye out for D class closer to the date and if it appears your chances will improve. Note the seat map indicates 11 out of 30 seats are currently preallocated, although this is not always a good guide.

FWIW, If you have not already done so it wont hurt to request your upgrade (the sooner you do the higher in the NB queue you will be).

QF51 and QF52 have been running at very high capacity for the last year or more. Mid-week the best chance for business class seats. Given you are looking at a Saturday departure, and this is the primary connection for anyone going from Europe to Brisbane, I would suggest that it is likely that business class will fill late in the cycle. The question remains as to just how full. If it was a Friday departure I would suggest no chance at all. The QF52 Saturday departure tends to include a lot of connecting passengers from QF10 and QF6 who have finished their week of work in Europe.

There are currently 18 business class seats left on QF52 1/9/07 in a mix of C and J (all 18 can be held in J, 17 of 18 available to book in C) though its still early days, but you never know your luck in the big smoke.

Thanks everyone for your input,

I was tossing up between Sinapore airlines and QF ,, but seing i am a QFF member i will go with QF, and hope for the upgrade !

Cheers

Well get that request in as early as you can - if you are going to be at the back of the queue - at least be at the front of the back

I had two fairly recent experiences of putting in for points upgrade on QF52 for Saturday departures. Neither came through (first time, I was a gold and the 2nd time was WP). First time I was keeping a close eye on the number of J seats available and until about 2 weeks prior to departure, there were plenty of empty seats, but they disappeared shortly prior to depature. 2nd time, I didn't bother because I was a bit preoccupied with other things, but J was completely full and so didn't get the upgrade. In fact, if I remember correctly, there was no empty seat in economy either.

Saying that, you can't get it without trying, so I'd say put your points upgrade request in, because you don't have anything to lose.

QF51/52 does seem to be a very heavily loaded flight. I took the SIN-BNE leg a few months ago and had a friend of mine who is QF staff check the loads about a month out. Even then there were only 3 seat left in business and only a handful in economy.

I can see that one going 744 when the A380's arrive.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Thanks Everyone for your replies.

Work finally got around to finalising the booking today, so 5 mins later i had the request in !

A bit  though,, as they changed the class , from full Y to the highest of the discount economy classes, so i am up for 40K of points,

But still if i get it,, woo hoo, it will be great,,

Thanks again for your help.

BTW , anyone else on that flight or in SIN on that date by chance ?? might be able to acomp me into the QP ? it would be much appreciated.

Cheers

WOOOO HOOOO

I got my upgrade !!!:D :D :D :D

how happy am i ???

all i can say is ,, I am so lucky

The plane is 98% full so there must have been very few FF with upgrade requests in.

so my last day in sin is starting in a great way !
and will end with a trip to the QP this afternoon, and then the flight home up the pointy end.

Thanks to everyone for their advice.

Cheers

MM: A biz boarding pass should get you entry into the SIN QP.

It's awesome... there's decent hot food and a coughtail bar.

Try a Singapore Sling freshly made.

Yes... there is a coughtail bar in the J lounge.. and not in the SIN F lounge.

Congrats MM472. Who says us lowly plebs can't get upgrades. Enjoy your time up the front. ;)

Cheers,

Thats exactly what i said lil flyer,

i guess, all the times i have been nice to the QF staff (which is whenever they do a good job ! ) maybe it pays of in the long run.

I have asked for Int upgrades 4 times now, and got 3 of them. so not a bad hit rate.

anyhow,, sitting here now having a Singapore Sling. only 3 hrs till flight, i might be able to fit another one in !

Enjoy you flight and go heavy on the Macadamia chocolates - they're awesome! :D

Yes they are! My Step Son on a recent flight asked for 1 more and the FA gave him an un-opened box of them :)

He looks like butter would not melt in his mouth, truth be told it combusts as soon as he touches it

O/T I don't look angelic at all but mentioned to the flight attendent that I was addicted to these chocolates and the almonds. Every time she walked past another set of each was placed on our side table. One of the best flights I've ever had on QF and I think it's mainly because I was delerious on chocolates!
